Participant@davidc3 I sympathise with you as I too was confused by this. The code for this is actually quite clever as it detects if you are logged in. If so then you can reset your password. If you are not then you can request a new one.
However the status of page/post where this shortcode (forgot password etc) resides also determines what the user sees. If it is protected then the user has to be logged in – otherwise you get the message to login. If it is unprotected then voila you will see the ‘forgot password’ code.
Hope that helps.

ParticipantSorry for the delay. I feel such a fool as I tried with a new site and a new theme and all OK. Still had problems with current site until I realised I had set the reset password page to be protected. Removing this resulted in receiving the request for the email address. Keeping this page protected would result in the ‘You must be logged in’ message which makes sense.
Sorry for the wasted time resolving this.

ParticipantThe system displays the login form and forgot password which links to the password reset page which requires you to be logged in. see http://dc64.wine-food.club/cm/
It is the wrong link – wrong in thatI want the forgot password link which asks for the email.
I thought I had upset the settings but have checked documentation etc and can’t see where it is wrong. The code definitely points to the reset password page. Obviously if I login then this will ask me for the email to reset the password, but that is not the function I’m seeking.
Thanks for your help.

ParticipantSorry about the duplicate – I was trying to correct a typo in the earlier post and couldn’t work out how to delete a post.
I cannot reset a password unless I have logged in. The user cannot login as they have forgotten their password.
My point is that I cannot get the system to ask me for an email so that I can reset the password! This works on the Simple Membership Forum but not on my site. I have reloaded the plugin but it still is wrong and the forgot password php file is still inactive. The change log showed the password reset had been changed for this latest version.
Is there a short code for this forgot password?

ParticipantHave checked that the SM plugin is the latest, as is WP.

ParticipantApparently the registration form is designed to be quick and simple, and the profile form adds additional information. To remove these fields would require the Form builder addon.

ParticipantThank you @admin. I have finally worked it out. I had set up a list with a signup form as per Mailchimp’s guidelines, some of which were set as required. Simple Membership – standard form only used a few of these fields. Unfortunately the next field on my form was required and as this wasn’t shown and completed it failed and caused the error message.
So I can now get the integration to work but I would like to expand the number of fields, which I assume is the purpose of the form builder addon.
Could you tell me if the integration between Mailchimp and Simple Membership operates both ways – i.e. changes to ones profile in Mailchimp get reflected in the Simple Membership profile and vice versa.
Thank you

ParticipantThanks @mbrsolution. I only have a free Mailchimp account and technical support isn’t available. As this integration works easily if I use ‘mailchimp for WordPress’ my gut feeling is that there is a something wrong with the call to the Mailchimp list. It has received the listname with the correct id but maybe the method of using it is wrong and therefore Mailchimp requires the password to the account?
It would be helpful to ask the developer if he can check the call syntax for the standard form integration. I’m sure this must work if one used the formbuilder. Perhaps there is a slight difference?
Thanks

ParticipantThanks @mbrsolution I do not know how to tell if the mailchimp list is active. The api key is accepted in the Mailchimp tab of Simple Membership and there is no validation for the list name whe it is assigned in the membership level field.
I believe my MailChimp List is active as it worked with another membership plugin I used to test this. The name is correct – as you would have noted from the log. It appears I can create a member and that the api key and listname are valid but the next stage when it adds the information to the Mailchimp list fails.
I am using the latest WordPress and Simple Membership version and the Free version of Mailchimp. I do not use SM’s form builder.
I have created a brand new test list, got a new api and used this but cannot get it to work. The log states the error occurs trying to load the list and a PASSWORD needs to be provided.

@nur I see from the forum and WordPress support that the failure to create the Mailchimp subscriber was reported some months ago but could not find an update or solution. Is there one please.Back to you please.

Participant@mbrsolution I do not have any other plugins activated and when I add the admin to the ‘alladmin’ level etc I cannot login to WP backend despite clearing cache etc. I had enabled Debug Mode, but it didn’t shed a light.Just showed I logged in and “checking the redirection. I logged out and closed the browser, clearing cache and history. I was able to login next attempt and to view a page correctly. I logged out of WordPress and relogged in. This time it showed I was Logged in as
admin64
Account Status Active
Membership AllAdmin
Account Expiry Never
Logout
I managed to login to WP and the debug logfile shows[11/27/2015 11:36 AM] – SUCCESS :After login redirection addon. Checking if member need to be redirected.
[11/27/2015 11:44 AM] – SUCCESS :After login redirection addon. Checking if member need to be redirected.which doesn’t help as the first entry shows the login when I can’t get to the backend and the second when I can access the backend.

ParticipantI’m a bit confused. I want to make changes to the site as WordPress admin, but if I follow @mbrsolution suggestion (https://simple-membership-plugin.com/giving-wordpress-admin-user-access-protected-content/) then I cannot access the wordpress backend. I get the SimpleMembership (SM) page to say I am logged in as Admin. I logout (screen acknowledges this) and retry logging into the backend but again get the ‘logged in’ message. If I remove this admin user from the SM users then most of the time I can login to the backend, but of course cannot view any protected pages. I have also cleared cache and cookies but cant get a satisfactory method of working.
So question: is it preferable to set up site with no protected pages and then when finished protect a page and use a user ID that is in SM’s members? I’m reluctant to use the admin SM setup. Your help would be appreciated. I like the simplicity (ie no bloat) of this plugin.SoMuch2Do
ParticipantThe link shows https://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/tag/database-import and selecting the appropriate article goes to https://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/how-to-easily-import-or-export-any-of-your-wordpress-database-content-using-phpmyadmin-3415
I’m using safari on Mac. Same result in Chrome.

Participant@mbrsolution Your documentation link points to WPemember plugin not simplemembership.
November 17, 2015 at 12:05 am in reply to: 1000+ members ➤ UNIQUE Username requirement becoming NIGHTMARE!!! #4011SoMuch2Do
ParticipantSetting username to an email does work for the free membership, but I think the point also is that some of us would like to add a modifiable note or help for the ‘username’ field to say ‘use your email address or a unique name’.
In addition it would appear that as it takes a little time to add the new registration to the database etc, a message after completing the form to say your details are being added, please login after a little while (?time?)
@nur – I hope that helps.SoMuch2Do
Participant@mindflint Sorry about that, but that is where I had problems. I hadn’t been able to complete the registration stage as a subscriber. I tried later with the login dialog, received the error of invalid username/password and then requested a reset.
