I have aded the Mailchimp integration addon, added the api and assigned a list name to a membership level.
I can register a new user but it fails to add the member to the Mailchimp list. It fails to load the list – error code250.
My Mailchimp list doesn’t have any subscribers and there is a signup form set up. I am using the basic Simple Membership form ie not the paid addon form builder.

    Help please.

Hi, can you make sure the MailChimp List is active. Can you also check to make sure you entered the list name correctly in the add-on. If all of the aforementioned is correct then the issue might be coming from your MailChimp account. Can you for testing purposes create a new test list. Add this list to the add-on and see if that works.

Thanks @mbrsolution I do not know how to tell if the mailchimp list is active. The api key is accepted in the Mailchimp tab of Simple Membership and there is no validation for the list name whe it is assigned in the membership level field.

I believe my MailChimp List is active as it worked with another membership plugin I used to test this. The name is correct – as you would have noted from the log. It appears I can create a member and that the api key and listname are valid but the next stage when it adds the information to the Mailchimp list fails.

I am using the latest WordPress and Simple Membership version and the Free version of Mailchimp. I do not use SM’s form builder.

I have created a brand new test list, got a new api and used this but cannot get it to work. The log states the error occurs trying to load the list and a PASSWORD needs to be provided.

[11/29/2015 12:59 PM] – SUCCESS :List ID to subscribe to:fe59d92f27
[11/29/2015 12:59 PM] – FAILURE :Unable to load listSubscribe()!
    [11/29/2015 12:59 PM] – FAILURE : Code=250
    [11/29/2015 12:59 PM] – FAILURE : Msg=PASSWORD must be provided – Please enter a value

It does not matter if I create a signup form in Mailchimp or use their default one as they both fail with error code 250, Password missing.

    @nur
I see from the forum and WordPress support that the failure to create the Mailchimp subscriber was reported some months ago but could not find an update or solution. Is there one please.

    Back to you please.

Have you been in contact with MailChimp about this error code? When I carry out a test I don’t receive this error message. It works for me.

What is interesting to me is the following failure.

FAILURE : Msg=PASSWORD must be provided – Please enter a value

Do you have some sort of protection set up in MaiLChimp that you are not aware of?

Thanks @mbrsolution. I only have a free Mailchimp account and technical support isn’t available. As this integration works easily if I use ‘mailchimp for WordPress’ my gut feeling is that there is a something wrong with the call to the Mailchimp list. It has received the listname with the correct id but maybe the method of using it is wrong and therefore Mailchimp requires the password to the account?

It would be helpful to ask the developer if he can check the call syntax for the standard form integration. I’m sure this must work if one used the formbuilder. Perhaps there is a slight difference?

    Thanks

You can’t compare the normal HTML opt-in form method with the API that we have to use for MailChimp. The only proper way we can add users to MailChimp is by using their API. If your API keys are wrong or if your Mailchimp account has restrictions or your Mailchimp list has restrictions (in terms of the field requirements) then the API call will fail and you will see something similar to what you are seeing. I just tested the free SM Mailchimp integration addon and it works for sure.

I am not 100% sure what is going on with your MailChimp account though. I can only guarantee that the addon is making the API call according to MailChimp’s API documentation and it is working.

Thank you @admin. I have finally worked it out. I had set up a list with a signup form as per Mailchimp’s guidelines, some of which were set as required. Simple Membership – standard form only used a few of these fields. Unfortunately the next field on my form was required and as this wasn’t shown and completed it failed and caused the error message.

So I can now get the integration to work but I would like to expand the number of fields, which I assume is the purpose of the form builder addon.

Could you tell me if the integration between Mailchimp and Simple Membership operates both ways – i.e. changes to ones profile in Mailchimp get reflected in the Simple Membership profile and vice versa.

    Thank you

@SoMuch2Do currently the plugin does not make any changes between MailChimp and Simple Membership plugin. If there are changes made in MailChimp’s membership profile they will not get updated it Simple Membership plugin.
