August 15, 2022 at 6:52 am in reply to: Stripe Payments Plugin integration, plus subscription functionality. #24225
admin
KeymasterYou create a subscription plan in the Stripe payments plugin. Then you attach that plan to a product. At the same, time you specify which membership level that product is for. The product is what tells simple membership which product corresponds to which membership level. You can create multiple plans and then create a product for each plan. You will be able to assign a membership level to any of the products that you created.
When a customer purchase the product (with the subscription plan), they are buying a membership product that will have a recurring charge (as you specified in the plan).
If the subscription is cancelled or it ends, then the membership profile will also be deactivated.
The following documentation is good to read to understand how the member’s access works based on what you specify in the membership level. It also has some details on how it behaves with a one time payment setup and a subscription payment setup:

KeymasterIt needs to be done early on the execution (before any page loading happens). Otherwise, the redirection won’t work. So the best practice is to use the approach explained in the above mentioned tweak. Perhaps, it can be further customized to add more logic in that code so it is only applicable for certain pages on your site.
In the future, I am going to try to add a feature so it can do redirection on the protected posts and pages only.

KeymasterHi, There is no feature for this in the plugin unfortunately. There is a tweak you can apply to your site for this maybe:

KeymasterTo exclude a page from caching, you can do the following:
1) Go to the “Page Cache” menu in W3 Total Cache plugin.
2) Scroll to the following field:
Never cache the following pages
3) Enter the login page’s slug in that field (in a new line). So if you are using the default login page created by our plugin, you can enter the following slug in the field:

KeymasterHi, We have replied to your email support question regarding it. So this should be resolved now.

KeymasterThank you. I can see that there is a small CSS conflict for it. I will apply a fix for this in the next release of the plugin.
admin
KeymasterHi, I have added a condition in that code so it doesn’t produce the errors when it fails to find it. The code change for this will go out with the next release.
admin
KeymasterWe currently have a “work in progress” feature for this. I think we should be able to have this feature released within the next couple of weeks.

KeymasterHi, This plugin is not for protecting static files (like PDF files) directly. Usually users use a download manager type plugin to handle the static files on their site. Alternatively, you can create a folder with .htaccess file to protect your static files.
It is likely that you had another plugin or .htaccess rules on the site that was protecting those static files before.
A download manager type plugin lets you create download items with your static files. Then it can offer additional controls to those download items.
Some users prefer to use amazon S3 for the static files.

KeymasterWith this particular shortcode, it doesn’t really matter if the level is paid or not. The ID value of the level doesn’t matter. There is likely some kind of conflict happening somewhere.
Can you please make sure to download a fresh new copy of the addon to make sure the copy you have hasn’t been messed up somehow:
https://simple-membership-plugin.com/simple-membership-miscellaneous-shortcodes-addon/Deactivate the delete the currently installed copy of the addon. Then upload and activate the newly downloaded one.
Is your admin user also part of simple membership (meaning you imported that user to SWPM)?
https://simple-membership-plugin.com/giving-wordpress-admin-user-access-protected-content/If you did, does that user belong to level 22 or 23? That could be affecting things when you are trying to save the post.
Does this happen with any other membership levels or just this 22 and 23?

KeymasterI just tested this function myself by doing the following steps and it works for sure.
1) protected a category from the “Membership Level” -> “Category Protection” menu
2) Created a new post. Before publishing, I selected the protected category for this post from the “Categories” menu.
3) Published the post.
4) Viewed the post from the front-end. It is correctly protected. If you are not seeing the above behavior, then most likely there is some kind of conflict on this site. The following test is a good starting point:

KeymasterLooks like woocommerce made a change to connect the cart to a WP user. So when WP user logs out, they empty the cart for that user. Do the following test and you will see that it has nothing to do with our simple membership plugin.
1) Temporarily deactivate our simple membership plugin (so you can isolate the behavior).
2) Log into a WP user account on a browser where you are not logged in as an admin. Just use the standard woocommerce account login (which uses WP user).
3) Add an item to the shopping cart.
4) Logout from the site using woocommerce account page or the WordPress’s standard logout option.
5) You will see that the cart is emptied.admin
KeymasterHi, Yes, when you create a PayPal subscription using the following documentation, the subscription will be automatically renewed via PayPal after 12 months:
https://simple-membership-plugin.com/create-paypal-subscription-button-inside-the-simple-membership-plugin/You can select either of the following options for your membership level (both will work fine):
#1) No Expiry (if you select this option, then the account access will be active until the subscription is cancelled)
#2) 1 Year (as long as the next subscription payment is received withing the 1 year time-frame, the account access will be extended by another year. It will keep going like that until cancelled.
It’s a good idea to fully read the following page couple of times. It explains the small differences of the various options (so you can select the one best suitable for your project):

KeymasterHi, The following “category” protection is the only option for this:
https://simple-membership-plugin.com/use-category-protection-membership-site/When you have protected a category then any new post that you put in that category will also be protected. So when you publish the post, make sure to apply that protected category to the post and that should protect it.

KeymasterHi, The plugin’s standard logout normally has no bearing on the shopping cart (unless the cart is connected to the WP user). There may be some kind of conflict (server configuration or other plugins or theme related conflict). First, try the following:
