KeymasterOne charge/payment attempt failing and the main subscription failing are TWO separate events. The plugin allows some graceful time for the a recurring charge to be retried. After Stripe fails to charge the recurring payment a few times (after trying it a few times), the subscription will be cancelled permanently. At that moment Stripe deletes the subscription and triggers the customer.subscription.deleted hook. Our plugin will use that to cancel/deactivate the member account. This prevents deactivating an account when one recurring charge event may have gone through a temporary hiccup that get resolved after a day or two.
Try cancelling that subscription from your Stripe account, then you will be able to test if the account gets deactivated or not.

Keymaster#1) When multiple Stripe webhooks are received, it can be confusing to read it from the debug log file. I have added additional debug logging in the plugin so it adds a line marking the “end” of the webhook. So we don’t have confusion from the following sequence:
A webhook for charge.failed was received. Then after a few seconds another webhook (for example: customer.subscription.updated) was received.
It can be hard to see that the “charge.failed” was just ignored which is expected behavior.
The changes that I have made will be released with the next version of the plugin. In the meantime, you can download an updated copy of the plugin from our site and try it. Let me know if this makes any difference:
https://simple-membership-plugin.com/wp-content/uploads/simple-membership.zip
If you want to try this update, first delete the currently active copy of the plugin then upload and activate the above mentioned one. You won’t lose any data (members, payments, buttons, settings etc.) in the process so it is safe to do this.
#2) You are using a “Fixed Duration” expiry. When you use this, it means the account will expire after that duration is over. It won’t expire the account as soon as the subscription is cancelled or failed. If you want the account to expire immediately when the subscription is cancelled or it fails, then use the “No Expiry or Until Cancelled” option in the membership level.
The following page has some explanation between the different duration type setups:
https://simple-membership-plugin.com/adding-membership-access-levels-site/#3) Edit your Stripe webhook to only receive the following events. I am updating this in our documentation now. It will help reduce confusion:
– charge.refunded
– customer.subscription.updated
– customer.subscription.deleted
– invoice.paid
– invoice.payment_succeededadmin
KeymasterDo you get any error message anywhere on the screen when it fails to create a member record?
Based on what you said so far, it looks like the plugin is conflicting on your site with another plugin or the server environment. That’s when it doesn’t behave normally (due to the conflict) You can try the following test to see if another plugin or theme is conflicting if not, you will need to try a different plugin to see if that works better for you site:

KeymasterThe custom field search option will be available very soon.
I have added the other option to my wishlist, but it is a difficult one to manage. I cannot make any guarantees about it. I want to emphasize that we never recommend users to purchase anything unless they are satisfied with the features we currently offer. Otherwise, it can lead to stress and disputes, which we are not equipped to handle.
If you are a coder, you are free to customize the code of the plugin or the addon. If you want to hire us to get some custom coding done, you can do so by contacting us.

KeymasterThe addon needs an update. Most likely your support and update for the addon expired so you didn’t get a notification from us. We have received your email communication also so we will reply there and sort it out.

KeymasterThe issue is the “Interest group” configuration that you have entered. The formatting of the interest group values look to be throwing things off.
What value have you entered in the “MailChimp List Name” field?
As a test, remove the interest group data configuration from the plugin’s “MailChimp List Name” field. Only keep the list name and do a test run to see if it still generates the error.

KeymasterWe have released a feature for this. You can see the new option in the “Members -> Send Direct Email” menu.

KeymasterThat doesn’t look like a timezone related thing. You want a specific time duration for the account to expire. The time duration granularity becomes very unpredictable when the value is less than a day. So we only support a minimum value of 1 day. You can add 1 extra day to your membership level. If you need hourly granularity with expiry, our plugin won’t be suitable for that.
admin
KeymasterHi, We made a decision that by default, our plugin will try to use the timezone that you have set in your main WordPress settings. So this option is no longer needed. There maybe instances where the code needs an update. If you give me more details on where (which interface) the date is not shown correctly, I will investigate it.

KeymasterThe critical error happens due to the server rejecting or stopping a particular action that the addon was trying to execute.
If you’re trying to figure out why the server is throwing errors, rejecting requests, or halting actions, it’s useful to consult the server’s error logs. The error logs contain detailed information that can provide clues about the problem. Without this information, we would be left to speculate without any clear understanding of the issue.
So ask the hosting provider for the error log file. Then look at the particular error that is triggered when this mailchimp alteration process takes place. If you post the error from the server, we should have some more clues.

KeymasterEnable the debug logging feature and then do a test transaction. It will help you to see if our plugin is receiving the payment notification or webhook notification after the transaction:

The following documentation is really helpful when you are settings up a new payment button and wanting to test it:

KeymasterWe are working on a feature for this. It will be available in the next release of the plugin.

KeymasterLooks like you have configured interest groups and the formatting is not correct. Please double check the interest group data and formatting that you have specified in each of the membership level. It needs to match according to what is specified on the following documentation:

KeymasterWhich version of the Mailchimp addon are you using currently? Go to the plugins menu in your admin dashboard to check the version number.

KeymasterThank you. The setup looks fine with the membership level. I am not sure what could be causing this. I would like to take a closer look at site to get some clues about this one. Please submit a contact form on this site to get in touch.
