If that is the case it was explained incorrectly. I was led to believe the form appeared on Thank you page (“there”) with that shortcode. See post 17349 and 17354. That’s what this whole thread is about. I get the link

Are you now saying there is no form that appears on Thank you page with that shortcode?

After refresh I get the notice:
Click on the following link to complete the registration.
Click here to complete your paid registration
I just created a new test. After payment, member is redirected by paypal to my thank you page with the notice:
If you have just made a membership payment then your payment is yet to be processed. Please check back in a few minutes. An email will be sent to you with the details shortly.
Shortcode I am using:
[swpm_thank_you_page_registration]Member receives email with link to registration page, as usual
It eventually worked.
Here is response I received from Matt to question:
“We never dealt with this kind of setup before. So I am going to say it is better if you look for something else (I don’t want to mislead you and then later it becomes a hassle).”

As mentioned above, In OP was referring to the plugin setting:
“Return URLs in plugin’s Payment Buttons manager.”
In my second post I am referring to the Paypal site:
“changed the return url in Paypal manager”
When you say

Currently, on my site, there is a link they need to click on. The link has user ID and a token as part of url just like the one in email notice.
I did some more tinkering and changed the return url in Paypal manager (i thought that was controlled by button) and things are better. I still have question.
Now paid member goes to page with the following:
“Click on the following link to complete the registration.
Click here to complete your paid registration”
The link sends member to the usual registration page and form. Is that correct? I was thinking that the [swpm_thank_you_page_registration] shortcode provides the form on same page as Thank You page
I was able to fix this problem. Just had to so some housecleaning after changing from a sub.domain.com to domain.com and force https, change custom wordings, menu links, etc.
Now my problem is the Login Redirection is enabled but does not seem to work. In Membership levels I have it set to go to Profile page, and it continues to do so when going to login page from a protected page login link
The site/page url is coming from an external site
