Hi Pam can you Go to WP Membership -> Settings -> Tools. You will see an option that allows you to manually generate a registration completion link. There are times that some members might no receive the e-mail with the registration link. This Tool will help you.

I have used that and the email still does not go that is why I was wondering if there is some other email setting I haven’t setup within the WP?

You might have to use an SMTP plugin. In some situations the mail server might prevent this plugin to send out e-mails. Can you also ask your host to check this issue. Also have a look at the server log files.

hi, I also have the same issue with registration process.

if the user already exists in the wp user database, and then they pay using the same email paypal, they will get an email with a registration link. the link will take them to a registration page with the email already filled out.

the big problem is – when they put in the same username as their wp user name, the following message is shown.
“WordPress account exists with given username. But given email doesn’t match.”
but when they try to use a different username to register, the follwing message is shown.
“WordPress account exists with given email. But given username doesn’t match.”

so the user will have to create a completely new user with a different username AND different email address.

    any solutions?

    thank you

@eric that is correct, the user cannot use the e-mail address twice. Did you import all or any of the WP Users into Simple Membership plugin?

    hi, thanks for the reply.

so you are saying that the user should have to have 3 email addresses potentially? (unless i import the user with the addon)
one for wp account, one for paypal account, and one for simple membership account?
doesnt seem practical if that is the case.

The reason why I havent imported the user is because I am also using buddypress. is there a way to add user as free member when they register through the buddypress registration page? or can the import member addon be executed automatically when there is a new wp user?

    thanks

Hi in regards to your question.

so you are saying that the user should have to have 3 email addresses potentially? (unless i import the user with the addon)

No, that is not what I mean or what I am saying.

The way this plugin works is like this, it gives you total management of users. In other words use this plugin to manage all or some users. The reason why I said to import the users from WordPress is to allow this plugin to manage those users independently from WordPress. Importing a user from WordPress to Simple Membership plugin also imports the details like the e-mail address. That means that the user will be using the same e-mail address. This will not conflict with the plugin. Ideally it would be great if your member uses PayPal e-mail account from the beginning that is if you are going to use paying services.

The above response also answers the following comment below.

one for wp account, one for paypal account, and one for simple membership account?
doesnt seem practical if that is the case.

If you are using buddypress then that is something totally different.

In regards to the following question.

The reason why I havent imported the user is because I am also using buddypress. is there a way to add user as free member when they register through the buddypress registration page? or can the import member addon be executed automatically when there is a new wp user?

I am not to sure if currently you can add the user as Free member when they register with buddypress. Currently the Import Member add-on cannot be executed automatically.
Let me know if the above helps you.

mbrsolution: It seems eric is having the same problem I am….
    1. when someone registers they are able to make their payment and when they do so, PayPal sends their name and email address back to the site telling the site to store the email address and name, however NO username or password has been chosen so they are redirected to complete their registration (which emails are NOT being sent out for)
    2. When they try to choose a username and password they are then told the email address is taken, preventing them from using it to setup username and password, and if they choose to use a different email then they no longer have access to paid content.
Therefore, in my case the work I have done setting this up has been in vain because the whole purpose was for the users to be able to pay and have access without my client having to add username and passwords.
It is a bit frustrating because I thought this plugin was going to work and now I find it has these issues and since I am not the only one having the same problem there must be an error in the coding.
Do you have any other suggestions for fixing this?
    Thanks,
    Pam

    yeah thats exactly it.
since i have set up my website so that only loggedin users are able to access the “join us” page, it would solve everything if the wp user data is automatically imported if the paypal email exists already as wp user.

Hi just to be on the safe side did you read the following documentation?

Can you also make sure that new members are completing the following steps.

    1. The member will receive an email that contains a “special” link to complete the registration.
    2. When the member clicks on that special link in the email it will bring them to the registration page and let them choose a “username” and “password” for their account.

Hi, This plugin can’t deal with a user account that you have in the WP system. You either need to import that user from WP or delete that record. Otherwise this plugin can’t proceed with it. This plugin is suppose to manage all the member accounts so you are not suppose to have a NEW member who has an existing WP user. This is likely happening because you used another membership plugin in the past which created those record. At this time, this plugin can’t handle that scenario unfortunately

yes, ive followed the steps and everything seems to be working ok.
the registration link is sent to the payee and all.

again, the issue is when an existing wp member uses the SAME user email for the paypal payment. the registration form has the email pre-filled out and unable to enter the same or different username as it clashes with WP email account. the payee cannot change the email on their registration because it is linked with their paypal email (which can no longer be used due to the clash). this makes the registration impossible if an existing wp user tries to pay with the same email address.

there are many posts about the username and password missing, but that is probably because the user cannot register under existing wp member, so no actual login-able account is created upon payment.

again, none of this would be an issue if wp registrations are automatically imported as free accounts upon signup.

this does not seem to be a bug, but just a function that doesnt seem to exist in the plugin yet as now i realize the plugin is designed to be independent of wp users.

Exactly eric! Unfortunately, I am thinking this is NOT the plugin for my client.
