I am following the steps for manually adding a new member to my site (https://simple-membership-plugin.com/manually-adding-members-site/) as a way of testing this plugin for my website. But after I fill in the fields on the admin side and hit save, no new member is created. I’m choosing the unpaid membership, so there shouldn’t be a problem with not activating a payment gateway. Is there some setting that I’m missing that is keeping me from being able to manually enter data for a new member?

I disabled all other plugins and tried again. The manual member creation from the back end still isn’t working.

It won’t add a member no mater what membership level I assign to it; even worse, I don’t get any kind of error message or anything else. After I hit submit, it just reloads the new member entry form with all the information I entered except the password.

Hi, is the member you are trying to add manually also added under WP Users?

    Regards.

    Hi,
No, this member is a fictional test member, not a real person. I have switched the toggle for automatically add WP Users off because we have users on the commerce side of our site who are not members of our organization, and I am trying to use Simple Membership to manage our organization’s members.

Hope that helps troubleshoot this issue.

Hi, can you delete the plugin. Then install and activate a fresh new copy. Then carry out a test again. Let me know what happens. Also make sure all other plugins are deactivated as well.

    Thank you.

If I delete the plugin and install and activate a fresh copy, I assume I will lose the hours of work I just put in during the past several days to get it set up. Is that correct?

Hi, if you are referring to any entries in the admin panel settings, then no. You will not loose those settings. However if you are talking about the plugins core files customization, then yes. In any case, simply create a backup just in case.

    Thank you.

Sorry, I’m not sure I understand your distinction in terminology between core files customization and admin panel settings. I have not done any CSS or code customization. What I have done is create all the settings for the use of the plug-in, including pointing to all the actual pages on the site where short codes for the plugin reside, importing a number of existing members into the plugin and identifying membership levels and their characteristics. That’s been hours of work just to see if this plugin will work for our organization.

If I deactivate the plugin and delete it, then reinstall the plugin, what happens to the record of all the members I’ve already imported, the membership level information I’ve created and the settings that have been selected in the settings menu? They all go away and have to be created again.

If I copy the website files to preserve them, then I’m also copying any issue that you are suggesting could be eliminated by my deactivation and deletion then reinstallation of the plugin. So even if your proposal works and by deleting, re-downloading and re-installing the plugin I can now enter new members via the backend, when I put the copy with all my members, membership levels and settings back in place, I’m also putting the corrupted plugin back in place.

From what I see, if I follow your directions, I will lose all the time I spent trying to set up the plugin.

    Is that incorrect?

Hi, I understand your concern. The reason why I suggested to reinstall a free copy of the plugin, is because sometimes plugins core files might become corrupted. In some cases a clean installation fixes the issue.

I have submitted a message to the developers to investigate further your issue.

    Kind regards.

#1) Make sure all the following fields have values when you are trying to manually add a member entry:

    – Username
    – E-mail
    – Password
    – Membership Level

#2) When you delete the plugin and re-install it, you don’t lose any data (for example: member’s data, membership level, settings values etc).

#3) If you made any customization to our plugin files, it can break functionality (if there is some kind of mistake in the customization). Any kind of customization is beyond the scope of standard support.

#1) not sure what I was doing wrong before, but it worked this morning after I made sure the four entries that you said are required were filled in. It’s unfortunate that there’s no message if there is a failure, like there is with your bulk importer add-on, that explains why the submission failed.

#2) This seems counter intuitive, but OK.

#3) If by customization you mean some kind of custom code, there is none of that. The only customization has been through the settings menu, the premium addons and the way membership levels are set up. I don’t consider that the kind of customization that should cause a problem as all of the selections are offered by your own software.

It does give an error if a required field is not filled out. The issue will be related to some kind of conflict on this particular site that is preventing the error from showing. When there is some kind of conflict, things can behave very weirdly and everything seems weird. Please read the following post which will explain why it can be an issue with conflict:
    https://simple-membership-plugin.com/message-from-the-simple-membership-team/

It’s not counter intuitive in the context of a WordPress plugin. A customer can accidentally, delete the plugin. It is not a good idea to delete all member’s data and settings data on that site because then the user can lose all those membership setup that he/she has done over a period of time.

You may need to use a different plugin that will align better with what your particular project needs and doesn’t have any conflict with the server and any other combination of plugins that you are using on your site.
