Yes, I still need assistance because I never received a response from you about the issue until now.

I resolved the issue by switching to the WP Rocket caching plugin. The problem no longer occurs using that plugin.

We can close this thread now. Thank you very much.

No, the latest version (3.1.9) doesn’t help with the issue I am seeing in Firefox with the Browser Cache feature of W3 Total Cache enabled. The cookies don’t expire after logging out of the membership area in Firefox.

I see that the plugin was updated since I first posted about this issue. Has the issue been addressed in the last plugin update? The problem continues to occur in Firefox. Thank you.

Until you integrate W3 Total Cache, is it possible to somehow set the simple_wp_membership_sec_7790901f278983ba3599b78055ecef9e cookie to expire at the end of the session rather than in 48 hours as it is set now? Would that help to overcome this problem in Firefox for the time being? Perhaps some sort of function code to place in the functions.php file for my theme to specifically target this cookie and delete it at the end of the session?

I need to continue using W3 Total Cache for site performance and would really like to continue using your great membership plugin. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Here’s my setup and what I have tried…

I have the following pages set up to be excluded from the Page Cache in W3 Total Cache:

/broadcasters/ (this is our login page)
/broadcasters/white-horse-media-central/ (this is our protected content)
/broadcasters/logout (this is a page people are redirected to after logging out)

I have also set the Page Cache so that no pages are cached for the particular user role that members are assigned to. This made no difference even though the no pages are being cached on the server for this user role.

If I deactivate W3 Total Cache, the logout issues seems to disappear in Firefox. This leads me to think there is a conflict between W3 and your plugin. Read on.

I think I may have narrowed the issue down to the Browser Cache section of W3 Total Cache. If I turn Browser Cache off entirely in W3, then the problem seems to go away in Firefox. So, I think there may be specific Browser Cache settings in W3 that need changed but I’m not sure which ones could be affecting the Firefox browser retaining the cookies for the logged in user.

I can confirm that the simple_wp_membership_sec_7790901f278983ba3599b78055ecef9e cookie is not expiring upon logout (most of the time) in Firefox with the Browser Cache setting ENABLED. The Expires date on the cookie shows as February 13, 2016 at 1:49:49 PM which is 2 days from now. Shouldn’t this cookie show “At end of session” for the Expires date? The wordpress_sec_7790901f278983ba3599b78055ecef9e cookie always is deleted upon logout and shows the Expires date as “At end of session”. Firefox specifically is holding on to the simple_wp_membership_sec_7790901f278983ba3599b78055ecef9e cookie most of the time. Once in a while the cookie is deleted but most of the time it stays there until I clear my cookies manually.

I’d very much appreciate your guidance on how to eliminate this problem in Firefox. I’d rather keep Browser Cache enabled if possible for performance reasons so I’m hoping there is a setting that I just need to tweak to get Firefox to play nice with your cookie. Thank you.
