I keep thinking about this. I strongly suspect the problem is (2) in my previous post: Elementor Cards displays preview content that is fighting with full-page protection. If that’s what it is, one solution is to use only partial protection (default for Simple Membership plugin) and not use full-page protection. You would need to manually specify what is protected and what is not in the ‘newsletter’ posts to facilitate the preview content that Elementor Cards pulls in. I’m not sure what happens if the page containing the Elementor Cards is full-page protected … Maybe it would protect the preview content in the cards? However, if someone were to access the ‘newsletter’ posts directly they would see the preview content (with the rest being protected by simple Membership).

You may also be able to protect the ‘newsletter’ posts as a category in settings, but that’s beyond my understanding of the plugin! (And I don’t know how the Elementor Cards “preview” would interact with category protection.)

I’ll bet it has something to do with the Elementor Cards component.

Is the source custom ‘newsletter’ post full-page protected? (I gather it is but just want to be sure.)

I’ve never used Elementor Cards but based on what I’ve quickly read, it seems to pull preview content into a “card” with a “more” link to view the full post. Some thoughts here:

    (1) Other plugins I’ve used for galleries and such have protection options on them (so that the gallery images can’t be accessed directly). So perhaps Elementor Cards also need to be protected individually?

    (2) The “more …” link is something I do have experience with, though not with Elementor Cards. With Simple Membership partial protection, you can specify the preview text (the part that’s not protected). Partial protection and Full Page protection (both Simple Membership plugin) will fight with each other, resulting in no protection at all. Elementor Cards may have a similar challenge, where the preview content is fighting with full-page protection.

    (3) Does the page displaying the cards have full-page protection? Is it possible you have a situation where the Elementor cards display unprotected preview text with “more” links to pages with full-page protection?

    (4) Are the target pages linked to from the “more” links in the Elementor Cards something other than the original custom “newsletter” posts? Or are the custom “newsletter” posts being pulled into new pages/posts? And if the latter, are the new pages/posts protected?

Hi BryGuy, since I’ve spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to solve a few really simple (boneheaded) challenges with Simple Membership, I’m curious about your challenge. Are you talking about full-page protection or partial protection? When you mention Elementor query, do you mean it’s pulling content from one page/post to another page/post? Are both source and destination pages protected?

No. There is no documentation on this. What it says is:

    ———-
    Important Note
When you want to use partial protection on a post or page, you should not protect the full post or the category that the post belongs to. When you apply category protection for a category, all the posts in that category is fully protected (category protection overrides any other protection in the post).
    ———-

As I explained in this thread, there are many ways to “not protect the full post or the category.” I tried all of them. Nothing told me I needed to disable Full Page Protection. Nowhere did I find any documentation saying that I must disable Full Page Protection for Partial Page Protection to work.

I mean, you made both. If it’s so obvious, why didn’t you tell me in response to my initial post when I said I had been using Full Page Protection for a few years? I’m not criticizing you, just asking you to to provide documentation that will help anyone else who already has Full Page Protection and adds Partial Page Protection.

Very simple: just say, “If you have our very own Full Page Protection, you must disable it for Partial Page Protection to work. Sorry, if you want full page protection on on page A and partial page protection on page B, you must choose and disable the one you can live without.”

Q: Did you read the following documentation?https://simple-membership-plugin.com/creating-teaser-content-membership-site/
A: Yes, I referenced it in my initial post.

Q:Also, this issue might be related to your theme or a plugin conflict. Please check the following troubleshooting steps.
    https://simple-membership-plugin.com/forums/topic/test-for-plugin-and-theme-conflict-before-posting-an-issue-or-a-bug/
A: Yes, I disabled all plugins except Simple Membership (including Simple Membership plugins/addons). No change. Switching to a standard theme (Twenty Twenty) makes no difference.

Again, what’s happening is WP Membership Full Page Protection continues to hide the entire page.

I did not disable WP Membership addons. What I did do was go into Simple WP Membership::Membership Levels::Post and Page Protection and unselected ONE page where I’m trying to get a teaser to work. Instead of the teaser, all of the content was displayed.

So my question is, am I missing something obvious that is not stated? For example, is it not possible to run Full Page Protection and Partial Page Protection simultaneously? Are the Protection addons fighting with each other?

OK I solved it. The problem is that Full Page Protection and Partial Page Protection cannot be used simultaneously.

It would be helpful to mention that in the documentation somewhere.

Note: Obviously it could be that whatever causes “More” tags to not work could also be making the shortcodes not work. I’m happy to use either — although I just added “More” tags to ever single page of my portfolio so it would be awesome if I could get that to work. At the same time, it would be nice to be able to hide content here and there within a page too, as the shortcodes would facilitate.

    Hi mbrsolution,
I am opting to NOT use the shortcodes because they didn’t seem to work very well with my editor (classic using blocks). However, what I tried was [swpm_protected]protected content[/swpm_protected]
    Thanks!
