ParticipantUsing Simple Membership plugin for the password reset. Got the password reset link link in the email. The entire process works great the password link in the email until the final completion screen. The final completion screen says “Password reset successful’. Login In (with the link) Then underneath that it has in red the error: “The password reset key is invalid. Please generate a new request”
I cannot figure this our or how to resolve it. Listed below are a summary of the steps of the password reset. We are on WP 6.1.1 PHP 7.4, plugin version 4.24, theme Morgan from wpforchurch.
Can anyone help?
To summarize the issue.
1. We are running the plugin Simple WP Membership Plugin.
2. When the Password Reset option is clicked, the user gets a screen to enter their email.
3. The email is received by the user with the password reset link,
4, When the link is clicked the WP screen is provided to the user to enter the new password and then reenter it again,. (This is EXACTLY what we want the end user to be presented with and not any more as the profile shortcode displays much more. This is short and simple for our older members to understand).
5. The next screen says it was successful and has a login link, BUT it also has an error message under it of : Error: The password reset key is invalid. Please generate a new request”
6. The password has been successfully changed for the user. How to do we resolve getting this message?
I have screenshots of each screen page in the process, the email, configuration in the plugin, and all the plugins we have activated in a pdf file I can send anyone.
Thanks

ModeratorHi, there might be a conflict with a plugin or your theme. This could also be related to a cache issue in your site. Please carry out the following troubleshooting steps.
Let me know how you go.
Thank you.

ParticipantI tried the steps above. Deactivated ever plugin except for Simple Membership and set the theme to Twenty Twenty-Three then did the Password Reset, got the email, clicked the link and entered the new password twice, got the confirmation page as described in my original posting above that it was successful (which it did work), BUT also got the error displayed under it:
Password Reset
Password Reset Successful. Please Log In
Error! The password reset key is invalid. Please generate a new request.BTW, debug shows no errors.
I am completely stuck and can’t figure this out. Hope someone can help solve this mystery error message.

ModeratorHi, do you have a cache system running in your server? Did you also cleared your browser cache? Are you using Cloudflare or something similar?
If the above does not help, you might like to try the following steps. These steps were published in wordpres.org forum for a different plugin but it was for the same error message.
1) Deactivate the plugin Simple Membership plugin.
2) Use the WordPress version to request a new password.
3) Follow the instructions to reset and create a new password.
4) Log in with the new password created.
5) Re-enable Simple Membership plugin again.
6) Carry out another test.Let me know how you go.
Kind regards.

ParticipantChecked with our hosting provider and the server we are running on doesn’t have a cache system. Then cleared the WordPress cache via a plug-in and also cleared browser cache and problem continues. Tried multiple browsers with cleared cache and problem continues.
Will try the other steps suggested and will report back on back.
Thanks so much for the reply and things to try.
