ParticipantHi,
I’ve setup one paid membership (ID is 2) and disabled free membership. Paypal has IPN configured/enabled. But when testing it, after payment, the payee gets an email with a link that leads to the registration page and shows a message stating that:
‘Free membership is disabled on this site. Please make a payment from the join us page to pay for a premium membership’ etc…(Though the test member appears to have been added to the list of members)
Surely it should send a message/link that asks them to create username and password?
I’ve read all the documentation especially points 7 & 8 – but where is this mysterious ‘special link’? Is there an email that contains it? – if so, I can’t see it anywhere in the email settings?
What am I missing?
Thanks.

ModeratorHi, did you disable the following feature Enable Free Membership in the Settings? Did you also delete the number 2 in the following field Free Membership Level ID?
Are you using the Form Builder Addon?
Thank you

ParticipantYes, the ‘Enable free membership’ box is un-ticked, and the ‘Free membership ID’ field just has a ‘0’ in it (my membership ID is ‘2’).
I don’t know what ‘Form builder addon’ is – I’m new to this plugin and just trying it out for the first time…

ModeratorHi, can you create a new membership level. But this time make sure it does not have an ID of 2. Then carry out a test.
Let me know what happens.
Kind regards

ParticipantThanks for that.
I’ve created the whole thing from scratch as you suggest, and I’m presuming that since I’m creating the payment button from within Simple Membership, I don’t have to add the ‘notify’ code in the “Add advanced variables” field of PayPal, yes?
I’ll get it tested now.

ModeratorHi, yes that is correct. If you create the PayPal buttons in Simple Membership plugin then you don’t have to generate the code in Payment Settings tab.
Let me know how your test goes.
Thank you

ParticipantHi,
Did a test with the new setup and it’s still doing the same thing: It seems there is a problem from the point that the payment is made to where you are supposed to be given the option to create a user name and password, i.e. the hand-back from paypal to the website plugin…

ParticipantI’m going round in circles here:
– I’ve READ all the documentation
– I’ve disabled ALL the plugins (except SM, obviously)
– It STILL doesn’t send the ‘special link’ in an email
– It just tells me that free membership is disabledwhy isn’t this ‘simple’?

@tallon — Something is wrong with your description. As shown in the flowchart that describes the registration process, you’re supposed to be choosing the user name & password BEFORE making a payment:
https://simple-membership-plugin.com/membership-registration-process-overviewWhen people first signup for memberships on your site; are they first directed to a “registration page,” and then PayPal?

ModeratorHi @tallon, the paid registration process steps are as @The Assurer mentioned above.
However you have two issues, one is the paid registration process and the other is the following error message.
It just tells me that free membership is disabled
First you should concentrate in fixing the above error message before you can carry out any registration process. You need to check the membership level set up in your site and make sure it is not linked to free membership sign up since you don’t want to enable this feature in the plugin. Once this is issue is fixed and you don’t see the above error message then we can concentrate on the paid registration process.
Also make sure of the following. If you are using a cache plugin, or your server uses some sort of caching system, or you are using CDN for your site you don’t cache any of the plugin pages i.e. login page, registration pages etc.
Let me know how you go.
Regards
