Category protection has stopped working on post thumbnails/grid view

We have a couple of post categories that we set up for content protection and this was working as expected for a while.

Today I discovered going to the website from a new browser that category protection is not working as it did previously with post thumbnails:

– previously, post thumbnails (posts in grid view) displayed a content protected message in thumbnail view, when viewed by an anonymous viewer
– now, post thumbnails display unprotected post descriptions. If I click the thumbnail in order to view the full post, the full post page still displays the content protected message.

Please advise on how to fix this.
