    Hi there,
I’m currently using your plugin and all is running smoothly with all categories protected. However I tried to “unprotect” a single post and make it freely available to readers (by editing that very post in WordPress) with no luck. Even after marking it as “don’t protect this”, it’s still asking me to log in . Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for your help!

When you protect an entire category, all posts in that category are automatically protected.

The “Do Not Protect this Post” option on the post edit screen is meant to override that protection for unprotected categories.

However, if caching or certain plugin/theme conflicts are in play, the override may not take effect.

Are you using any page caching plugins, server modules, or even browser caching?

Hi there and thanks for a quick reply. You said:

Are you using any page caching plugins, server modules, or even browser caching?
No, I don’t have any caching plugins running in WordPress. Browser caching: I use Chrome or Brave, that’s all I know.
Thanks in advance again for your help!

After you change the protections, do you get the desired results, if you open an incognito window and then try to access your site?

I tried it with an incognito window and it remains the same.

Which hosting provider are you using?

Also, could you please go through this checklist…

    Hi again. I’m in WordPress.
Should I follow the steps in that checklist?

I just want to double-check one thing. Are you certain that this post is not assigned to a category that has protection enabled? If the category itself is protected, then the post cannot be unprotected unless the category protection is removed. To make that post accessible, you would need to move it into a category that is not protected.

Category protection always takes precedence—it overrides any individual post-level protection settings.

You can see this explained in the Note section (highlighted in yellow) of the category protection documentation:
    https://simple-membership-plugin.com/use-category-protection-membership-site/

I just want to ensure that this isn’t what’s happening in your case.

The issue you described can only occur if caching is in place or there is a conflict or if there’s a misconfiguration. It would be a good idea to first rule out any misconfiguration.

Hi again. That explains it then, as the post belongs to a “protected” category, only that I read or thought that besides that a post could be “excepted” from protection if ticking the “don’t protect this” option in WordPress. Eventually I was wrong, I guess. Sorry I can’t do that then, but thanks so much for your help.
By the way, one more question: I believed that being the administrator of the site as long as I was logged in in WordPress I didn’t need a separate membership to access the very posts of my site. In fact I’d created an “administrator” membership (with access to ALL categories) in order to avoid to being asked to log in as any other person, however I’m being asked to log in, which took me to register as a separate person in order to do so. Am I forgetting something?
Thanks in advance again for your great help!

The following documentation explains this in detail:
    https://simple-membership-plugin.com/giving-wordpress-admin-user-access-protected-content/

If you’ve already imported the Admin user account into a membership level, the next step is to make sure the access permission setup is correct. As before, there are only three main factors that can cause issues:

    1) Caching
    2) Conflicts with certain plugins or themes
    3) Misconfiguration

Start by reviewing the access permission configuration to rule out any setup issues:
    https://simple-membership-plugin.com/apply-content-protection/

Please also go through all the documentation pages linked from the above page. If you’re using any of the other protection methods, double-check those setups to ensure everything is configured correctly.

Hi again. Before anything, sorry for my late follow-up! With reference to your comments:

<If you’ve already imported the Admin user account into a membership level, the next step is to make sure the access <permission setup is correct. As before, there are only three main factors that can cause issues:
    <1) Caching
<2) Conflicts with certain plugins or themes
    <3) Misconfiguration

<I’d already imported the Admin user account into a membership level but still, no matter how much I try, it doesn’t seem to work . I don’t think it’s a catching issue, or related to with certain plugins or themes (I may be wrong), but maybe a misconfiguration thing then? Admin Dashboard Access Permission is set to “administrator”, while Membership Level Name is set to the the Admin user account I’d imported, and Default WordPress Role also set to Administrator (that would be me too)

Last but not least, there’s another issue which is giving me a bigger headache, maybe you can help me with this too? Besides the “Admin user account import” not working, when trying to access any post on my site, I’m being asked to log in almost on a daily basis. Then when I do, I get the “You are logged into the site as an ADMIN user in this browser. First, logout from WP Admin then you will be able to log in as a member” Even more weird, If I open WP Admin in a new window and log out of WP, I still get the “…” message. I can only REALLY log out if clicking on the “profile” (my profile, eventually) included in “warning!” message body. If I’m not able to fix the “Admin user account import” issue, I’d still be more than happy solving the continuous log in-log out thing. By the way, I’m using Brave browser, if that helps.
Thanks once again in advance for your time and help! Besides these two issues, the plugin works like a charm.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
    Kind regards.

When there’s a conflict or issue on the site, it can sometimes be confusing because a single conflict can cause multiple parts of the plugin to fail. As a result, you may see problems appearing in several different areas.

Caching is the most common cause, but each possibility should be checked one by one.

Please start by confirming that the standard member login system is working correctly on your site:

    1) Create a standard member account.
    2) Open an incognito or private browser window where you are not logged into the site.
    3) Log in using the Simple Membership plugin’s login form.
    4) Visit a protected page and verify that access is granted as expected.
    5) Browse through a few other protected pages to confirm that everything functions correctly.

    Hi again,
I can confirm I had already create a standard member account (I actually created two), visited protected pages using an incognito window and access was granted.

Just to confirm — the issue you’re seeing with the admin user account does not occur when testing with a regular member account, correct?

If the problem only happens with the admin account, please check the following items:

    1) Verify the membership level:
Go to the Members menu and locate the admin user. Check whether the correct membership level is assigned to that user.

    2) Confirm the login source:
Make sure you’re logging in using the Simple Membership plugin’s login form, not another login form on the site.

    3) Check the debug log:
Enable the debug logging feature, then perform a login test. Review the login-related log file to see if any errors or failures are recorded:

    How to enable debug logging
    https://simple-membership-plugin.com/enable-debug-logging/

    4) Test with a new admin user:
For troubleshooting, create a new admin user account, import it into the Simple Membership system, and try logging in with that account.
Does the login work correctly for this new admin user, or does it show the same issue?

    5) Perform a conflict test
Do a login test following our plugin and theme conflict testing guide to rule out any conflict-related issues for the admin user login:
    https://simple-membership-plugin.com/forums/topic/test-for-plugin-and-theme-conflict-before-posting-an-issue-or-a-bug/

Thanks for the info, I’ll check that out and let you know later. In the me anytime, maybe this can be helpful: WordPress (not Simple Membership) has just asked me to log in. At the same time Simple Membership also asked me to log in. I entered my username (Simple Membership plugin’s login form) but nothing changed. More over, it didn’t take me to the very post I tried to access. Instead it stayed on the login page that gives the member’s info (eventually informing me I was logged in all) And then when I went to the very post again it asked me to log in again, so I didn’t. I forgot that for a second, went to the WP form, logged in with my username and password (same one I use as Simple Membership’s administrator, yes, THAT issue we were discussing, yes to be solved) and then when I tried accessing any protected post I logged in without a problem.
Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks once again!
