Cancel payment / reduce membership level

Hi folk…

Having a bit of trouble with this plugin to be honest.. It’s feeling a little restrictive – perhaps I’m missing some configuration.

Context
We have 2 membership levels. Free, and Paid.

Problem 1

Customers need to sign up to ‘Free’ first, then upgrade to ‘Paid’. This is annoying – I want them to be able to sign up to become a Paid member right away!

What I’ve found so far: They can subscribe for the paid membership without being a member. This sends them a link by email and they can fill out their registration form. That feels illogical – they are basically being asked to pay before they can even register for the system?

What I’d like to know is: Can I get them to fill out the registration form > then get them to set up their PayPal subscription > then hey presto – they have a paid account. Without them having to register for a free membership first and without them needing to pay before filling out the registration form?

Problem 2 (arguably more important than problem 1)

When a customer cancels their PayPal subscription – it currently just shifts them to ‘Inactive’ – so they can’t do anything.

What I’d like to know is: Is it possible to, rather than changing them to ‘Inactive’ – to shift them on to the free membership account level? That seems to be the logical response to somebody cancelling their paid subscription if a free option is available?

No, that is not correct. Your members can register for premium access without having to register first for free access. Please read the following documentation to understand how our plugin works.

Do you have the following feature Enable Expired Account Login under Advanced Settings enabled?
