I have email activation setup. Once I click on the link in the email to activate, I get a different message other than the message described in the documentation on https://simple-membership-plugin.com/email-activation-for-members/ Step 4)
This is the message:
Account already active. CLICK here to login
What is causing this?May 13, 2021 at 11:48 pm #22592
activation links are different:
I performed some tests and noticed if the the URL contains
https://nam03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/xxxxxxxxxxxthen I get this issue
If I use a yahoo email address in the registration, I get a much different URL:
https://www.prosisfse.com?swpm_email_activation=1&swpm_member_id=469&swpm_token=321c2a13620564a01a675b8ce5e86ceband the page opens and redirects as described in the documentation.
It would seem that the Outlook Safelinks is causing this issue and may require a update to the plugin.May 15, 2021 at 1:08 am #22598

Can you provide more information regarding the above comment. I want to make sure I understand your issue correctly.

The membership plugin sends out a one time use URL in the email. This is done for password reset, email activation, etc..
If Safe link is activated on the Outlook email account, any link in an email will be opened and scanned for malware. Because the one time link URL is visited and scanned for malware, the one time link no longer functions correctly. For example, I am using activate account by email confirmation URL that is sent to the user when they register. Instead of getting the success message and being redirected to the website after they select the link, the user will see “Account already active. CLICK here to login” and not get redirected to the website. It appears the Safe link is activating the account automatically when it is scanned for malware.
I assume that the password reset will not work at all but have not tried.May 16, 2021 at 11:18 pm #22603

Please try the password reset link and report back with the outcome. Also make sure you enable Debug mode.

My error..It looks like the password reset does not send a URL as the new password is in the body of the email. Here is the log file for the verification email issue:

You are having nonce security failures. That is why it is not working in your site. Which contact form are you running in your site? This could also be related to a cache plugin.

I don’t understand the question on contact form. Under the membership level I am simply checking the box for email activation. Once this is checked, an email and activation link is sent. There is no form associated with this. The registration form is the out of the box form. I have not created any custom forms.May 18, 2021 at 11:09 am #22610May 18, 2021 at 12:20 pm #22611

Sorry, my apologies. The contact form reply has nothing to do with your issue. I got my thoughts mixed up a bit from another issue from a different plugin 🙁
The nonce error is occurring due to the safe link . Once the outlook security feature in the members email performs the security scan on the URL the issue occurs.
I have submitted a message to the developers to investigate further your issue.

That feature looks to be conflicting with your setup unfortunately. I have tested the feature myself and it works fine (when nothing else is affecting it). External/Conflict related issues are beyond the scope of this free support forum. Please try a different plugin and hopefully that will work better for your current setup.May 20, 2021 at 11:28 pm #22615
Well at some point you will need to fix the issue that Microsoft Outlook has created. Its disappointing that you cannot accommodate the ever changing security requirements required by many organizations.
