WP Users versus Members

Hi,
Thanks for a great plugin! I had some issues, but they were all due to my lack of knowledge 🙁

I am a still bit puzzled though by the fact that new Members are also registered as WP users.
Is this correct, or is this an option I can uncheck somewhere? If not, what is the reason for the automatic creation of WP users? IS this required to make the admin to work?
It’s not a great problem, as I can filter-out the Admins/Editors pretty easy in the Users list. Just wondered…
