ParticipantI have a free membership page with a document download on it.
I just tried making an account with a test account, but couldn’t do it because it called every password I could think of “weak” and wouldn’t let me create the account. (Actually I had the account but was trying to change the password).
It seems like a good idea, but the “weak” setting is set WAY too strong. even with Caps, special character and numbers all together in random ways, it still comes back as “weak”.
I am almost certain that this “feature” was never there before, since I never had this trouble before.
Any way to disable this “feature” and let people go ahead and make an account with “weak” passwords?
I got so frustrated myself I almost gave up, and I am the developer!

ModeratorHi, you say the following.
I am almost certain that this “feature” was never there before, since I never had this trouble before.
Did you by any chance update any of your other plugins or theme?

ParticipantYes, It is true, I update all plugins and theme when available.
Still. Is it a Simple Membership Plugin that prevents the “Join” button from being pressed when there is a weak password? If it a Simple Membership feature, any way to disable it?
Thanks,

ModeratorHi, I just carried out a test in my testing site. I created a Free membership account from the front end using a very simple password 123456 without any issues.
This confirms that the plugin does allow you to create accounts with simple password. Something else must be going on in your site.
In regards to your comment
Yes, It is true, I update all plugins and theme when available.
Maybe one of the plugins you updated might have caused this problem. Can you try and disable all your plugins except this one and carry out a test?

ParticipantThank you very much for your kind research and advice.
I tried it again on another computer, even without changing anything on my website, and I could create an account with a weak password just fine.
I don’t know what was happening before, but it had nothing to do with Simple Membership. Somehow it was computer or browser specific. Before, when I entered the password for a new member registration, a little bubble would appear and say “weak” or “really weak”, and the “register” button on the register page would be greyed out, to not even let me press it. I tried explorer and chrome on another computer that it doesn’t happen. Not sure what was hijacking my registration page before (don’t have that laptop with me right now).
Anyway, thanks so much for your help and the great plugin,

ModeratorI am glad to know that you have resolved your issue. It is very strange that your laptop or browser caused this issue. It is like you say, something might have hijacked your settings in that particular laptop.
Kind regards
PS Thank you for your nice words about this plugin 🙂
