Hi there,
Something strange and troublesome occurred today:
A new user registered as a Free member, and they used my email address as their username. They put their own email address into the email field. At least, they only became a Subscriber and not an Administrator.
This has been a headache to sort out as, somehow, it has confused both Simple Membership and WordPress. I was locked out of both of them for a time.
Luckily, I had created a second Administrator user for myself, so was able to get into this rogue user’s account and change the email back from what this new person had entered, and entered my own again. I then changed the password.
I have deleted this registration in Simple Membership, but am wary of doing the same in WordPress User.
I don’t expect you can do anything about this, like being able to create a Stop Lost of email addresses, but mention it as a warning for others.
Cheers,
JohnF
Thank you JohnF for sharing your experience so others can learn.
It is very strange that the person registered using your e-mail address. It is obvious that their intentions were not proper. I am glad you solved your issue quickly.
