ParticipantHi
I have Simple Membership set up on a subsite of a multisite.
I created a free membership level which requires email activation. My question: when somebody registers, but does not activate their account via the email they receive, should their account be registered in the User database as approved? Because that is what is happening.
With my setup, which duplicates the account in the other subsites, this is an issue, because the user can log into those subsites without email account confirmation.
Thanks in advance for any guidance you can offer.

ParticipantJust to add – here are some of my settings:
Simple WP Membership::Membership Levels: Edit membership level: (free level)
Email Activation: CheckedWP Membership / Settings / General Settings tab:
Default Account Status: Activation RequiredWP Membership / Settings / Advanced Settings tab:
Force WP User Synchronization: Checked
Default Account Status: Activation RequiredWhen the user does not click on the email account activation link, the user enters the WP Membership database with Account State: Activation_required (as expected).
The problem: The User also gains a standard WP account User account Status Approved.
Is there any way to prevent the standard WP account from being created until the user verifies via their email activation link?

Have you considered setting the following feature Default Account Status to Pending?
Note: Setting the account to Pending allows you to manually approve the members. Check the following URL manually-approve-members-membership-site to learn more.
Let me know if the above helps you.
Thank you

ParticipantThank you for your reply.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t solve the problem.
Spam bot accounts still need to be flushed out manually. On my multisite setup, the ‘Auto Delete Pending Account’ would only delete the account for the subsite on which Simple Membership is activated. I would have to search through Network Admin/Users to find and delete the accounts manually.
More of an issue though is that genuine (i.e. email verified) newly registered members wouldn’t be able to post until I (or a mod) manually approved them (which would often result in their going away without posting).
I need to prevent accounts from registering in the WP User database before they have been email verified.

I have submitted a message to the developers to investigate further your needs.

ParticipantThank you.
Not many membership plugins offer email verification, although it’s the most effective way to limit spam accounts.February 23, 2021 at 6:50 pm #22203Penny
