ParticipantHi
We have an existing yearly Stripe Subscription payment button in place and want to increase the price for all existing and new members.
I’ve seen on other posts you recommend an upgrade level but this isn’t what I want to offer to customers. Instead is there a way to migrate existing subscribers to the new price?
I have created a new price in Stripe and added the new price_id to the button. Should I archive the old price in Stripe, or is there a set way to do this?
Many thanks in advance

ModeratorThe only difference between a subscription and renewal button, is that renewal buttons are presented to logged in members, and subscription buttons are presented to non-logged in members. If a logged in member clicks a button, the payment gateway knowes it is for a renewal.
So, simply increasing the subscription price for the button, should do what you want.

ParticipantHi
Thanks for the response, but they won’t be clicking any buttons. This is for existing subscribed users whose subscription will automatically renew.
We want to ensure the subscription renews at the new price, not the one they originally signed up for.
Appreciate your further response.
Thanks

When the subscription is initially created; whatever payment processor (in this case Stripe), creates a “payment contract,” between the member and the payment processor; for a certain number of renewal terms, at a particular price.
You are “out of the loop” and cannot affect the payment contract price; unless either the number of subscription renewal terms runs out, or you unilaterally cancel the subscription on the Stripe end; forcing the member to resubscribe at the higher price, when the canceled subscription ends.
The reason why you cannot change the price of an existing payment contract has to do with tort law. You must either cancel it, or wait for it to run out.
Hopefully, your existing subscriptions have a fixed number of renewal terms…

ParticipantHi
Ok, thanks for the answer.
I have found it is possible to do this via Stripe, but you must go through each subscriber one by one and change to the new product. A bit of a shame there is no easy way to do it via WP Simple Memberships but at least we can get around it.
Thanks
