The last three days or so, we have been getting a lot of spam notifications from email accounts that do not really exist. I decided to delete the registration page, making it a DRAFT. However, notifications still came through. So I then removed the JOIN US button, until I can find out from you how to prevent this.

I installed recaptcha on the registration page, but that did not stop the fake registrations. What are my options, other than deleting the plugin altogether?

Any fake registrations that took place before you detected the problem, will continue to bounce back, and there is nothing you can do until they stop.

You might consider disabling free registration, and charge a very minimal amount of money, to force processing by PayPal. Something like $0.50?

Well, there is a very vicious person doing this. I removed the email address in settings, and the person duplicated a notification and sent it to another email address associated with our organization.

Hi @tslbozeman, do you have any security plugin installed in your site? If you don’t I recommend All In One WP and Firewall.

Let us know if you need more information or help.

    Thank you

Please explain to me how this would help? At this point, I’m about to remove the entire Members’ area as dealing with this has been too much, which I assume is the point of the spammer.

Hi, the security plugin I recommended above has an option to block IP address from having access to your site. So if the spammer is using the same IP address you can block this IP address or IP address range. That means that this person will not have access to your site.

Also if this spammer/s is coming from a country that you don’t really do business with, you can also block this country using an addon.

There are other security options in the plugin to prevent spammers.

I just thought of sharing this with you, before you decide to remove the registration process altogether.

    Kind regards

That sounds like a good thing, but this is very complicated. I installed the plugin and I’m looking through it, but I have no idea what IP address is spamming and I’m not sure how to block it. This is a very complicated plugin, and more technical than I am able to understand. If you are able to tell me specifically what setting to check, I’d be grateful.

Hi, I understand what you mean. It can be overwhelming for some. I have slowly been compiling a documentation for this plugin. You can check the following URL documentation. I recommend that you take your time to understand all different features in the plugin.

Let me know if you need more help.

    Kind regards

Thank you, I will definitely read more of the documentation, although at times I feel developers should hire me to write their documentation in ‘laymen’s’ language. LOL

I have been chatting with the host of our site and it turns out that all the spam notifications have been coming from people trying to register as a user. I disabled their ability to do so.

    Thank you for your time.

I am glad you found the solution to your problem. Well done 🙂

I also agree with you that documentations should be written in simple English. I do my best to do that myself, however in some situations it can’t be easily achieved 🙂

    Enjoy the plugin.
