ParticipantHi,
Is there a way to register users in 2 steps
1. they provide username, email address and password
2. when they activate through the email activation link, they can proceed with filling additional infos; adress, custom fields, terms of services, etc…
3. Receive register completion email

ParticipantHey guys,
Upping the message as I see all forum posts got answers but mine. And I will also provide a more detailed explanation of what I need.
Our registration process includes a long and boring form, followed by a kyc. In order to make the process smoother, it would be great to simply start with a simple register form (email + password) where you need to activate your account from the email you receive.
After they activate their accounts, users are prompted to complete their profiles and submit. The account is now validated and when user browses profile, all the fields are made non editable (besides password). We already implemented the tweak for non editable fields.
I would really like to stick with simple membership as it offers most of the default features we need and I’d be happy to discuss customisation work if it’s needed.
Best regards.

KeymasterThe quick answer is “No”. That is not how the standard registration process works with this plugin.
What you explained needs a little bit of complicated setup. The long answer is “something can be setup by using the form builder addon”. Are you using the form builder addon already (your post doesn’t mention it so I want to make sure I understand your setup).
With form builder, you can make the registration form to only have the basic/required fields (username, email, password). So the registration process is quick and simple. Then the “edit profile” form can have the extra fields and questions that you want them to fill out after they log into the site.

ParticipantYes, we use form builder. I’m going to try that approach now and come back to you if we need further customisation.
Is it something you can provide?

Participantfeedback on your suggestion.
It’s actually interesting, the only down side is we can’t let users change their information (besides pw) after they’ve submitted the form. So we have to find a tweak in order to have the field editable only once.

KeymasterWe can potentially do a custom job to make the fields not editable if it has a value (meaning, it has been filled out once so no more edits). But that may not be very useful since you would normally want to allow users to edit their profile details.
Another potential option could be the following:
After the registration, you can send them to a WP page where you create a form using a standard contact form plugin. Then they can submit the information there (which is emailed to you upon submission). That submitted info cannot be changed anymore. You can add a field called “username” or “email” in the form (created using a contact form) to know which member’s info you received.
