How can we also make the First and Last name fields mandatory as well?

If you are a competent PHP programmer, you can certainly do it yourself, for free. SWPM is Open Source; and you are welcome to modify it, as you see fit.

I just used the free “Visual Form Builder” and created a form. Replaced your shortcode on the signup page with the forms shortcode.
They will have to add the members manually via the emailed information the form sends.
They had to do a manual verification process anyways so works out OK, and eliminates the spam registrations.
