ParticipantI need some help diagnosing an issue. Everything has been working fine until recently and I don’t know what has changed to cause this issue.
When I log in to the site as a user who has access to a page, the page is still displaying the ‘you need to log in’ notice. I have a local site and 2 remote sites, all the same and all doing the same thing. I’m on the latest plugin version but I wasn’t on the latest WP. So I updated WP locally and it seemed to fix the problem. I log out and in again and it stops working again. So I open a private browser and try logging in again and all is working as it should locally.
So then I update WP on my remote site (copy of my local site) and it doesn’t work – private and non private window. So I’m at a dead end.
Local and remote sites are identical though the server setup is different. Both on php7 but different versions of 7.
The site was working perfectly until recently and I can’t pinpoint what has changed to cause this and when it was changed. We did upgrade WPSM plugin to the latest version a few weeks ago but I’m sure it has been working since then.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ModeratorHi, have you spoken to your host about this issue? Perhaps your host updated something in your server without letting you know? Did you also happen to upgrade any of the other plugins or theme?
Regards

ParticipantWaiting on a reply from the host and I stumbled on the answer while playing around by looking at what I had added most recently – the Google reCaptcha add on plugin. If I disable the reCapthca add on then it all works perfectly.
Strange that disabling all plugins except for Simple WordPress Membership wasn’t working but by disabling only Google reCaptcha then it works.
Also strange that when I cloned the site to another host, everything worked as it should with reCaptcha add on activated.
Some kind of conflict between the Google reCaptcha plugin and the original web host? I’m not sure what that could be as the domains are correctly added to reCaptcha and the registration and login forms are working fine.
Any suggestions as to what to look for appreciated, I’d like to have the reCaptcha add on activated as there are some bogus registrations starting to come through.
Thanks!

ModeratorHi, I think at this stage the best option is to wait until you hear from your host. From what you say above it points to some server configuration. Just one question, do you know what PHP version your server is running?

ParticipantServer is running php 7.1.9.
I found what was causing the issue. If I disable the two settings on the Google reCAPTCHA Addon Settings tab:
– Enable Google reCAPTCHA on Login Form
– Enable Google reCAPTCHA on Password Reset FormThen all works as normal. As soon as I enable those two settings, I am unable to view protected content even when logged in.
Those features aren’t needed on my site so it’s all fine now but but do you want me to give any more information to help diagnose whether this is a bug?

ModeratorHi, it is up to you if you want to diagnose the problem further and only if you have the time.
The issue has something to do with your current server settings. This would help your server administrators and even yourself. I would be interested to know as well.
Kind regards
