What a great plug-in. I started using it 4 days ago and it’s coped with over 1,200 visitors signing-in so far. I’m not sure my hosts servers are coping (only partly joking)

My question: I have quite a number out these 1,200 reporting problems with the registration and login process, which I think I can divide into two distinct groups:

    1. Free membership: after registering, visitors are unable to Login. The try, search the site, but if they choose a protected page it tells them to login.

For this, I have advised them to logout, count to 20, then login again. Surprisingly this works most of the time. In other cases I have advised to clear the browser cache, and that clears up most of the others.

    2. Paid membership: some visitors (the keen ones) make their PayPal payment, and then immediately try to login. Of course, PayPal hasn’t yet responded, shown by the Username field remaining blank. Then, once PayPal has responded, the user usually gets into the same login loop as those above.

Sorry to be long winded. The Debug log shows no failures.

Is there anyway you can look at this? This, together with “Can we use email as username?” would have prevented me from having to be constantly answering email questions over the last 4 days.

    Still a great plug-in, though.

    Thanks for listening,

I know it’s only one day, but have you any news on this?

Is step 7 and 8 happening (see the following documentation for reference)?

Yes. No-one has reported not receiving that email. In fact some users emailed me beforehand worrying about going to PayPal BEFORE they had entered details. I was able to assure them that was just how the system worked. And they were successfully registered as paid members.

I do hope you can find out what is causing this. I have spent nearly the whole of the last 4 days since instituting this plugin just answering emails and having, in some cases, to delete their registration and re-inputting it manually.

If this login loop problem can be solved, it will be a great plugin for me, but I have made the decision to deactivate it for the moment. This, of course, opens up the whole site to everyone, but I can live with that for the moment.

Looks like you have a caching issue. See your other post where I explained why it is an issue:

A while ago I was having some page-loading speed issues, so my host suggested installing W3 Total Cache. Now I’m not all that tech-savvy, so I went ahead and did it. Do you think is causing my problem. I have de-activated for now.

The trouble is I received this advice from what I thought was a trusted source (as I still believe they are) but I don’t know what consequences there are likely to be.

Are you saying that I should suppress all caching? Do you have any caching on on your website?

    Many thanks,
    JohnF

    Hi admin,

Just a heads-up for any others who may stumble upon this post.

I’m reporting back just to say: THANK YOU. It was a caching plug-in I had been advised to use by my webhost in order to speed up my site. I wasn’t aware that it had ramifications. Once switched off all this has now gone away.
