I’m logged in as an administrator and also have a test account as a subscriber. When I log in with either account I am unable to view the protected page. I just get the message that I need to be logged in to see the content. But I am logged in. So I log out by the log out button I created using your log out code and try to log in again only to find out I’m still logged in. So I log out on the screen that has my username, role and expiry date and log out on the button of your code, so logged out using both methods. I then log back in. No joy. I’m logged in but still cannot view the protected page. This happens 95% of the time, 0.5% of the time I can view the page so I know the plug in is compatible with the theme.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Your Website will have a number of membership levels, each page has a section “SIMPLE WP PROTECTION” (probably at the bottom)

If protection is on then ONLY the membership with ticked boxes will see the page.

Best to Tick the Administration boxes on all pages.

The “SIMPLE WP PROTECTION” section on each page will say the following
Do you want to protect this content?

No, Do not protect this content.
      Yes, Protect this content.
Select the membership level that can access this content:

      User defined membership levels e.g.
      Premium
      Admin
      General
      Free

Luke thanks for the comment. I have the permissions already set as you suggested but still cannot log in.

I went through my plugins one by one to see if there is interference but even with all the plugins but simple membership inactivated and the proper permissions set, I still get the loop of login – you need to login – login – you need to login etc.

Not sure what else to do. This plugin does exactly what I want it to do but at the same time is frustrating not having it work as it should.

    Would really like some help.

@Betsy it sounds like you might have a cache problem. Do you have a cache plugin installed? If you do can you clear your cache and configure your cache plugin to not cache membership pages.

If the above does not apply, can you read the following documentation to allow admin to view the content while logged in. This is related to your comment above. When I log in with either account I am unable to view the protected page

How many members do you have in the Members list inside the plugin? This is not referring to the list of Users in WordPress.

In regards to the following comment.

Are you saying that you deactivate all your other plugins except Simple Membership and your login is still in a loop?

Answer: I don’t specifically have a cache plugin installed.

comment:How many members do you have in the Members list inside the plugin? This is not referring to the list of Users in WordPress.
Answer: Not many 8 right now with a maximum of about 50 if everyone signs up!

    Answer: yes!

I will try the directions you included about the WP Admin User and will let you know.

    Thanks!

    Hi Betsy,

I am having the same problem. I do not have a cache plugin installed. I use a completely different browser to login as a newly created member. After I enter the login credentials and click “Login”, it takes me to a landing page of sorts as I can see the account status, Membership, Account Expiry fields of the new member.

From there, if I click on a page with WP Protection, I am told I need to login to view this content.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

@nOObie, when you log in as a new member using a different browser does this member have access to view the other pages or post? Another words does this member have the correct membership level to view the other pages and post?

@nOObie and mbrsolution, I still have the problem of not being able to access the membership/protected pages. I still get the loop of log in (successfully) see that I’m logged in then try to access a protected page only to be told to log in. When I try to log in (again) it tells me I’m logged in. Doesn’t make any difference to browser or whether iPad vs PC. I’m just stuck in a log in loop.

Very frustrating because I really want this to work.

@Betsy can you do a Theme conflict test.

    1. Temporarily switch the theme to any of the default WordPress themes (twenty sixteen, twenty fifteen etc.)
    2. Test the plugin behavior.
    3. If it works correctly with the default WordPress theme then you have a theme conflict.
    4. Report the problem to the developer of that theme.

@mbrsolution, If I temporarily change themes do the test then change back to my original, do I lose anything from the original? I’m a little leery of making such a change without knowing what will happen…. I’m not an experienced web person.

Ok, I got some advice that nothing would bad would happen with a theme change. So I changed to WP 2014 theme and still got the “log in to see content, request to log in, already logged in” loop

Can we work through this somehow? I really want this to work

Hi Betsy, what membership level have you assigned to the protected page you are trying to view?

I have two membership levels, both free. Members of the church and Administrator. When I create a page I scroll to the bottom and check the box for do you want to protect and then check both boxes for member and admin access. If I log in as either, I’m in the loop. If i go to a different browser, I’m in the loop.

I am almost at the point of making you an admin to the site to see what is going on! I have been over the settings many times and I swear I’m doing everything right. It could be a setting as when I switched themes the same thing happened.

Private message me if you are interested in the admin idea.

I really appreciate you helping me!
