Current setup; Using Word Press 4.0.1. Latest verison of simple membership plug in.
Note that the problem has been constant with earlier verisons of WP and SMP

This is a free web site that uses 3 levels of access. Free is limited, Vistor has access to free content and a weekly online meeting and Member has access to all content.

The problem is that registered users log in, go to access the online meeting or any of the member content and are taken back to the log in page, asked to log in again, so they do, and they may or may not be able to access restricted content, may be taken back to log in. So a user may give up, come back 2 hrs. later and have no problems.
Secondly the problem varies from user to user, some have had no problems, others contstant.
With 1 member have deleted account several times, changed password, still has problems.

    Help/guidance is appreciated.
    Thanks

Do you have any caching plugin on this site?

What happens if you temporarily deactivate the caching plugin?

    1. do you have any subdomain where you redirect users after login?

you can also try disabling all other plugins to see if login works correctly. if that is the case then some other plugin is conflicting with simplemember

    No redirecting to a subdomain.
Since the original post I found 3 pages on the site that seemed to be part of the issue, so I deleted the pages, put new ones in place. That seemed to help.
    Disabled the cache plug in.
There is only 1 page where the two levels of access must be enabled.
It appears that the above steps have been helpful in addressing the issue.
