I manage a small site for a local Men’s Shed. We needed to keep some pages to a restricted audience and chose Simple Membership as the tool to do this.
Downloaded and activated the plugin, Created membership levels and then used the User Membership Import plugin to import the existing Users. All seemed to be OK but I think everyone (including the admins) has arrived with ‘member’ level which only gives access to a small part of the WP Dashboard. Gone are the abilities to manage Users, Plugins, Setting, Appearance etc.
I’m stuck, I can’t change my access level (or that of anyone else) to solve the problem. Neither can I edit any posts or pages that have been created already. It looks as if my rights are about the same as Contributor in WP terms.
I do have access to certain parts of the Dashboard, I can get into the server via FTP and can access the WP database using PHPMyAdmin. Can anyone suggest a way to get back in ‘control’ of the users?
Thankfully the site still works but updates to content will be needed shortly.
Thanks for your help. Feeling really stupid right now 🙁
Meant to say, I’ve tried disabling the SM plugin in the Plugin folder over FTP but the problem persists.
You say that you can access the MySQL database using phpMyAdmin. Please refer to this, to see if you can restore the WP Admin roles.
Brilliant! Thanks so much, that has got me back into the site.
Really appreciate your help.
