Hi, I have a site running on wordpress and my site is in spanish. Using swpm but by no means could find the instructions on how to set to spanish. Found a lot how to translate but I can see spanish is already in the languages folder. How can I set simple-membership-es_ES to work?

Hi, the plugin is already translated into Spanish.

However if you want to add your own personal translation you can use Loco Translate plugin or you can read the following documentation. But keep in mind that in version 3.5.5 the pot file changed to simple-membership.pot.

Let me know if you need more help.

    Kind regards

Same here. As borisjavier said, we found that the languages are there (somewhere). But they are not activated automatically!? How can we make it work?

@Wacko, there are two areas that a language file is added too. One is in the plugin language folder if it exist.
The other area is located in the following path /wp-content/languages/plugins/. These files are the ones translated in wordpress.org.

For example if the plugin has been translated into Spanish in wordpress.org then you will fine the following two files added to the the following path /wp-content/languages/plugins/.

    simple-membership-es_ES.po
    simple-membership-es_ES.mo

However if someone else also submitted the translation files and the developers added those language files to the plugins language directory, then the po and mo files in this directory will take precedence over the files added by wordpress.org located in the path I mentioned above. If that is the case, simply delete the po and mo files for the language you are interested in from the plugins language directory folder located in /wp-content/plugins/simple-membership/languages/.

Let me know if you need more help.

@mbrsolution thanks for your answer. Of course i noted that in wp-content/plugins/simple-membership/languages the .po and .mo files for es_ES are already there. I think i am missing something pretty obvious but i don’t have any idea of how in the heck can I make the plugin work -in the frontend- in spanish. In other words: How do I use these *es_ES.po and *es_ES.mo files in order to make my site look a uniform spanish instead of part spanish and part -the simple membership part- in english, what should i do with these files?
Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

@borisjavier, can you share your website and or share a screen capture pointing to the area that is not fully translated.

    Thank you

    Hello,

thank you for your detailled explanation. For me, it’s like nothing of your plugin’s output in the FE is translated (into German) at all. I could send you a screenshot of an english login form / registration form or whatever, but I’m sure that you know what this is looking like.
The website’s language is set to German but this doesn’t change the plugin’s language in the Frontend. What else do I have to take care of to let your plugin choose/use the correct language files?

    Thanks you

@Wacko, can you check the following path /wp-content/plugins/simple-membership/languages/. Do you see the German po and mo language files?

If you don’t see the language files above, can you also check the following path /wp-content/languages/plugins/?

    Report back sharing your findings.

    Thank you

    Hi.

    /wp-content/languages/plugins/ is empty

/wp-content/plugins/simple-membership/languages/ has 34 po and 34 mo files and 1 pot file. None looks german :-/
You can find all files I have in the plugin install zip right here on this site.

    Thanks!

Hi, that explains why you don’t see the plugin translated into German. Here is the wordpress.org German translation where it is at currently.

If you would you like to translate the plugin into German you are most welcome. You can following my instructions above.

Let me know if you need more help.

    Kind regards.

Makes sense :-)) It is a bit confusing, that it is said in the plugin description that the german traslation is available. Because of this, I didn’t expect that these files could be missing…
If you had the mentioned german files somewhere, I would be glad to find them in your zip file.
I’ll take a look these days of how to translate it myself. Where would I have to put them, in both folders?

If you translate the plugin yourself, add the files to the plugin folder. If you decide to translate the plugin via wordpress.org, the files will be added automatically by wordpress.org. If you would like to share the translated files, please follow the documentation I shared above.

Let me know if you need more help.

    Kind regards

Thanks for your kind answer. I read the discussion carefully and everything has a lot of sense. However, if there are no german translation files (.mo and .po) in /wp-content/plugins/simple-membership/languages/ directory, therefore there is no way the plugin can pull the correct strings into the frontend.
There must be a translation file and proper instructions to set them up are in this link.
My problem seems to be easier to solve. There are two files in /wp-content/plugins/simple-membership/languages/: simple-membership-es_ES.mo and simple-membership-es_ES.po which comprise the whole translation of plugin´s lines. However there is a simple question I’ve been asking from the beginning: How in the world can I make this plugin work in spanish if I have these files but I don’t have a clue on how to set them to work???

@borisjavier there was nothing else to setup once I inserted these two files. Maybe your site’s language isn’t set to Spanish?! I believe that this defines what language is used by the plugin…

Solved! You were right, there are no additional settings other than settings->general->Site Language. Mine was a very simple and obvious issue: There are plenty of Spanish versions according to region usage. My site was set to es_CO (Spanish Colombia) which is obviously different than es_ES or es_MX available translations for the plugin. Since there is no significant difference between spanish from Spain and spanish from Colombia I just set my site´s language to “Spanish” and that was it, the plugin works like a charm. Thanks @mbrsolution and @Wacko for taking the time to answer my requests. Best regards!!
