I can’t get the “Hide Adminbar” option in General Settings to work? Does anyone have any suggestions?

I followed the instructions, it still does not get rid of the admin bar for non-admin users. Any other ideas?

Hi, can you carry out the following test. Log in as a none admin member. Then take a screen capture illustrating the admin bar displayed and share that image here. Also can you let me know what settings did you enable in the plugin as per my instructions above?

    Thank you

Hi, there are many free tools online that allow you to share images. The other option is to upload the image to your site and share that URL. Let me know if you need more help.

    Kind regards

Thank you Gary for sharing those images. Can you try the following. Only enable the following feature Hide Adminbar. Then carry out a test?

If the above does not work try and enable only the following feature Show Adminbar to Admin. Then carry out a test?

If the above does not work try and enable only the following feature Disable Access to WP Dashboard. Then carry out a test?

If the above does not work, can you test one of WordPress default themes like Twenty Seventeen. This is just for testing purposes.

Do you know if there is any plugin installed in your site that might interfere with this process? Also the username you used to log in, did they belong to admin WP Users role? Or did they belong to admin membership level?

    Thank you

Problem solved! I have a couple of questions though, shouldn’t just clicking “Show Adminbar to Admin” be enough? Does it hurt anything to have all 3 checked? I would think that if I checked the “Show Adminbar to Admin” I would not have to check either of the other 2.

The culprit was the “Maintenance”plugin by fruitfulcode. Do you know of one that doesn’t interfere with Simple Membership?

    Hi,

shouldn’t just clicking “Show Adminbar to Admin” be enough?

Below you can read an explanation of what each option does when enabled. In the documentation I shared above this is further explained using images as well.

Hide Adminbar = WordPress shows an admin toolbar to the logged in users of the site. Check this if you want to hide that admin toolbar in the frontend of your site.

Show Adminbar to Admin = Use this option if you want to show the admin toolbar to admin users only. The admin toolbar will be hidden for all other users.

Disable Access to WP Dashboard = WordPress allows a standard wp user to be able to go to the wp-admin URL and access his profile from the wp dashbaord. Using this option will prevent any non admin users from going to the wp dashboard.

Does it hurt anything to have all 3 checked?

Not really but it is not necessary.

I would think that if I checked the “Show Adminbar to Admin” I would not have to check either of the other 2.

It depends on what you want your members to have access too. For example the above does not allow members to view the Adminbar but they still have access to wp-admin and view the WordPress dashboard. And you might not want the members to have access to this area.

Do you know of one that doesn’t interfere with Simple Membership?

Unfortunately I don’t know of any other plugins.

Let me know if you need more information or help.

    Kind regards

After thinking about it, it dawned on me that this is really important! I think the explanation you gave me should be incorporated into the installation guide lines.
