Free registration disabled; user can register instead

Dear all,
we have been used the plugin for more than 3 years without no problem.
We noticed in these days a strange behavior.
In our configuration we do not have free registration but SUCURI ( the secure plugin) send us notice that some account has been created inspire we don not have any payment.
WE suddenly delete those registration; more the registrations come from bot because the name and email are with no doubt false.

How can this happen ? If simple membership does not have free membership plan how can a user subscribe as well ?

Do you allow registration via WordPress? Do you have the following option Membership enabled under Settings -> General?

If you don’t have the above option enabled in your admin, do you have any other plugin that allows for registration?
