Fixed Date Expiration and payments

I have the membership level set to a fixed date. Memberships run Jan. to Jan. How do I set this up so that they can renew their 2018 membership to a Jan 2019 expiration.. and so and so on down the road?

Situation: Our offline association has members and their dues are paid through Jan 2019. We are asking them to register and become members of the website and are doing this via a free membership level. Then manually upgrading ( as we verify them ) to the “Paid Member” level. Which is a membership set to expire Jan 15th 2019. (fixed date )

NOW, as they “renew their membership” via the website and your plugin anytime between now and jan15th their membership level needs to stay the same “Paid Member” but now be good through Jan 15 2020

I can’t let the membership renew based on 1 year from payment as that will end up with a variety of renewal dates.
So have set the fixed date. I guess I will have to keep going in each year a changing the fixed date?

Short answer… create a new membership level for the next year, with identical privileges to the existing membership level.

Yeah, I did that sort of a workaround and it worked. Actually, I created BOTH a new membership level “Membership 2019” Gave it a Jan 15 2020 expiration and then created a new pay button for the new level, and place its code on the renewals page.
It did automatically upgrade the user from the existing level to the new level.
So I guess as long as we do that every year it will work.
