Existing WP users

I’d like to be able to make existing WP users members but I keep getting a message saying the user exists..

I understand the add-on to allow you to batch import users or new members, but I am having trouble adding an EXISTING WP member to your user database. I get the following error:

Wordpress account exists with given user name. But given email doesn’t match.

So, I am currently logged in as the site administrator. In order for me to see my own “member” posts/pages, do I need to add myself as a user in your database? I created a class of user called “admin” with WP administrator access. But when I add myself to the database, I get that error message.
