Is there anyway to display the number of active users on my homepage?

I want to display on the homepage how many members the site has. “Welcome to the site, we have #### members. Sign up now.”

Is there any code to display the number of members there automatically? I see in the back end under members, I can display just “active” members at the top of the table. I want to show that number on the front end homepage.

No. I don’t want to display a list of members or any info about the members. I just want to show the number of members on the blank line below.

“Welcome to the site, we have _____ members. Sign up now.”
