    Hi team,

I’ve had a number of customers upgrade their accounts even though they already have active subscriptions –– confusion or just “making sure by double doing it” 🤷‍♂️. This causes quite a lot of admin having to cancel the first subscription since the later one is most recent + active.
Is it possible to disable account upgrades if the membership is already active?
This applies to both Stripe and PayPal subscriptions.

    Many thanks
    F

    Hi,

Is it possible to disable account upgrades if the membership is already active?

Unfortunately this is not currently possible in our plugin.

    Thank you.

    Ok :/
May I suggest possibly to add optional email entry field on registration page before proceeding to payment? This way the plugin could first check the database to see if account exists before proceeding with registration. If account exists to either (1) Ask the user to login to upgrade their account or (2) to confirm that the account is active and request login instead of registration.

Can you provide more information regarding the above comment. I want to make sure I am on the same page as you.

    Thank you.

    Hi,

I have customers who don’t login to the website often and tend to forget whether they have an active subscription or not. What they do is just try to register again, in hope that at some point they will be told if they have an account or not. When they register again their registration turns into an upgrade, without any notification that this is what will happen beforehand. Once the upgrade happens, their “Access starts” and “Subscriber ID/Reference” have been updated to the latest subscription and the old subscription continues to be valid regardless. The customer now has 2 active subscriptions, without knowing. So I need spot these, then go to paypal/stripe and manually cancel the first subscription and refund the customer the time difference between first and second subscription.

I am thinking there should be some way of preventing this from happening. Upgrades should ONLY be available when the accounts expire.

    Cheers
    F

Do you have an upgrade or renewal button option added in your site?

    Regards.

    Hi,

Unfortunately I cannot reproduce this issue in my dev site. I tested this while I was a registered member with no expiration period. I tried to register again with the same username and email and it would not let me register again.

Can you confirm they are not registering with a different username and or email address. Can you also enable debug mode. Then create a test account and make sure it is active. Then try to register again with the same username and email address. Make sure you have logged out of the site before you try to register again.

    Thank you.
