Difference between Renewal and Upgrade?

Hello,

I am trying to understand the difference between these buttons/pages.

On my site yet to be opened, I will force the users to first register for a free account then give them the option to pay for an upgraded tier.

Do I need to have both an upgrade page and a renewal page or can these pages be the same?

I have read the documentation but it is not clear to be where these 2 processes are different from each other.

An “upgrade” only applies, is you have more than 1 membership level. It allows a person to “upgrade” from one membership level to a higher one.

A “renew” is when a person wants to “renew” their existing membership level.
