conflicts between WordPress user accounts and SMP user accounts

Our forum plugin uses WordPress accounts. Apparently Simple Membership does not.

Users can quite easily be logged into SMP but not WordPress, and vice versa. This results in duplicated login, profile, and password information, not to mention endless confusion.

Can Simple Membership coexist with a forum that uses WordPress users? I can’t manually synchronize users back and forth, it needs to be instant, automatic, and invisible.

swpm automatically synchronizes users with wordpress user system.
when you log into swpm, you should automatically be logged into wordpress.

first of all, can you verify that user name you are trying to log in with, exists in wordpress.

It does exist both places.

The password change doesn’t work. Change password, I pop back to the login screen, and the new password does NOT work, old password DOES work.

In case I understood your question correctly, what I have remarked is that adding users through SMP adds them automatically to WordPress. However, adding users via the WordPress dashboard does not seem to make it possible to then add them again via SMP. Thus, I think that you may try to add new users via SMP to have both SMP and WordPress be updated with these new users.

I am chiming in here because I find that this functionality constitutes a grave defect! I checked what you said, fabima, and indeed when I make a new member with Add New in SWPM, their data shows up in the wp-users table of the database. However, it does not show up in the nice Members table in the WP-Membership backend, because it does not get ported into the wp-swpm-members-tbl table!

This is crazy!

That means that when my 560 users want to view protected content, they have to log in to WordPress first, THEN to the site! This is too cumbersome and makes no sense at all.

Is an amendment to this on the cards? If not I really cannot use SWPM.

ok, so i see that if i let them sign up as a prospective member by mail, THAT data goes into wp-swpm-members-tbl table. i might be able to work around this …

however, i need to allow user to add some additional data when registering, to “notes” column and “extra info” column. i’ve looked through the code and am starting to see a way to do that … would like to check back with you if i get stuck, though!

this membership plugin is literally the only one i’ve found that does most of what i want, so i’m screwed if i can’t use it!!!
