ParticipantSometimes when someone visits my site they are presented with the ‘Restricted Post (not logged-in)’ message but when they click login they are then shown their profile page, suggesting they are logged in. If they then click logout on that screen they return to the ‘Restricted Post (not logged-in)’. If they press the login link they return to their profile page and so the process repeats! This problem is intermittent

ModeratorI think there are page caching issues on your site. Are you using any page caching plugins or server modules installed?

Intermittent problems are usually not site or plugin issues. Does it only happen to a particular set of users? Has it happened to you?

ParticipantIt occurs for me quite often. It isn’t resolved by deleting browsing history (Chrome) and happens regardless of whether I log in using my admin account or a basic level test login that I use. It occurs when you have been logged in and then revisit the site later. Sometimes after taking me to the profile page the first time and back to login, the next time I click the login link it takes me to the login page, but usually the loop repeats again and again.
I’m unsure if it’s related, but after logging into wordpress.com, if I then log in to the site (via simple membership login) so that I can see the site content (using any login) I get ‘500 Internal Server Error’ which is only resolved by clearing my browsing history.
I really appreciate your assistance, thanks

That Error 500 is “infrastructure related” and is unrelated to any plugin. Are you able to reliably reproduce THAT error?

ParticipantYeah easily, every time. I log out of both the site and wordpress. Log into wordpress, view site, log into simple membership login page…. Error 505. Only resolved by clearing browsing data… until do the above again, when the error returns

Moderatorhttps://www.w3.org/Protocols/rfc2616/rfc2616-sec10.html
500 Internal Server Error
The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request.505 HTTP Version Not Supported
The server does not support, or refuses to support, the HTTP protocol version that was used in the request message. The server is indicating that it is unable or unwilling to complete the request using the same major version as the client…These are not plugin related errors. Where (geographically) are the users located? Which browser and version is being used, when this error occurs?

ParticipantIt is me getting these errors. I’m in the UK and using Chrome. It doesnt occur if you dont have a wordpress account as well as a simple membership login (ie it is more frequently an issue for admins)

ModeratorI really “hate” to knock hosting providers; but I personally consider WordPress.com akin to “training wheels” for folks wanting to see what it’s like to run a WordPress site. I also suspect it’s all that extra software they use to limit the different site tiers, plus server capacity issues, that contributes to the “Error 5xx” problems. Finally, it’s one of the more pricey hosting providers, for what you get.
