    If at all possible it would be invaluable if the new members could register without also having to create a unique username but make the email the only unique field requirement. At 1000+ members it starts to become a real big problem causing frustration when someone wants to use their first name “Brian” as their username and someone else already used it.

    I project that within the next month I should be approaching 2000 members and then your plugin becomes infeasable to use because people like using their names as Username.

    Great tool! Thank you for building it and keeping it simple.

    Hi,
    You can use email address as user name. I think that will solve the problem.

    I have only just started using this plugin, and it did cause many problems, some of which were solved if the user did not use their email address as username.

    After only 2 days I already have 490 users, so expect also to climb into the thousands.

    I second that for users to be able to use their email address would be a very good idea.

    Hi,
    thanks for your feedback. email as user name should work without any problem. I’ll take a look. But you could point out the issues you are facing while using email as user name, then that would help me resolve them quickly

    thanks,

    The problem I have for those who have used an email address as User Name, is that they cannot access protected pages.

    Also, I have noticed that email addresses can not be searched for. I have yet to get any results when I type into the search the entire email address. No search results.

    My experience is that you have to keep registering process to absolute simplisity. Any instructions of what they can or can not use will be a disaster in terms of support – the types of questions I get a amazingly stupid.

    I don’t understand why the Username needs to be a second unique field in the database if you already have the email as unique?!

    I can’t tell you how many registrants have contacted me confused why they were rejected and when I ask them what went wrong their explanation shows that asking for a unique username and poping up an error message if someone else has already used it is confounding for some people. I actually have never seen a registration require the username to be unique.

    REQUEST: I could really use a BATCH update feature that allows me to change the Status/Type for many members at once. I initially had set the registration so that it DOES NOT automatically approve and then 600 members in I realized that they had not been approved and had to do it manually. Ugh!

    1. I have just checking possibility of using email as user name and didn’t find any issue accessing protected page.

    2. search by email address works and it works if you use email as user name as well. I don’t see any reason why it should not work. Its simple pattern matching SQL query. it should return result even if you query by part of email address.

    Could you try registering using whole email address as user name and see if that works?

    Nur, yes I can register using email as username and was able to search with email address but get search results only if the email is being used a Username. I do not get search results using email address if it is only being used as the email address.

    Any plans to allow bulk updates besides “Delete”. Also, please suggest a way to export or access the list of emails of registered users so I can cross reference with an excel database of paying clients. Is it possible to export the registrant database so I can merge with excel list to see who is/is not paying customer.

    Last question… do you plan to include a feature that allows creating custome fields or is there a plugin you know of that would allow that functionality.

    Setting username to an email does work for the free membership, but I think the point also is that some of us would like to add a modifiable note or help for the ‘username’ field to say ‘use your email address or a unique name’.

    In addition it would appear that as it takes a little time to add the new registration to the database etc, a message after completing the form to say your details are being added, please login after a little while (?time?)

    @nur
    – I hope that helps.

    Nur, I keep trying to use the email address to find a member and I do NOT get results when I use the entire email address and the email address is NOT used as the Username.

    I am just confirming my above post where I state the same issue.

    @yourbizzwizz thanks for clarifying that. email is not searchable at the moment.I’ll add that.
    for bulk account status update, we will release it soon.

    We are building an addon for exporting member data. It is being tested now.

    On your last question, We have a form builder addon that allows you to create custom field

    @SoMuch2Do

    I am using the Form Builder, and I have User Name and Email fields which are both don’t have the delete option. So if I want people use their email as user name, I can change user name field’s Validation to “EMAIL”, but on the default email filed which could’t delete or change the “Validation” which means user have to type two times email address on these fields.

    This doesn’t make sense still, why just make it simple to combine these two fields as one?

    thanks!
