InactiveI have been struggling with this plugin for quite some time. I just can’t seem to make it work. I have now created a development site on my computer and am starting from scratch.
I have created two levels – “Complimentary” and “2 day test 10 cents”
The Complimentary page at http://cg.com/membership-join/membership-registration/ works fine. It registers the member as user and member, and an email is sent to both user and admin advising of new membership immediately without any confirmation link in an email. The paid membership http://cg.com/2-day-10-cent-test-registration/ processes the payment and I receive notification from PayPal, but the paid subscriber is not registered as user or member, there is no notification to subscriber or admin, and there is no email going out with confirmation link.
Email Settings are complete with From email address of: Christian Gays <mary@christiangays.com>
Debug log shows Complimentary registration as “SUCCESS”. It doesn’t show anything for the paid registration.
What am I missing please?

InactiveThank you mbr! I have gone through all of the links provided and none of them apply to my situation.
Example: “However, if the log file has no trace of the plugin receiving payment notification then that means the IPN feature in your PayPal account is turned off. ”
This is not the case. The IPN feature must be turned on because I am receiving notifications from PayPal, but they are not recorded in the log.
Could we perhaps start with the basics – i.e. registration for free membership. I can register for free membership and I get a confirmation that it was successful immediately.
I do NOT want that!
I need to confirm their email address by sending them an email with link to click on for confirmation, and I can’t find any documentation for that scenario.
How do I set that up please?

ModeratorHi Mary in regards to the following comment.

If they are not recorded in the logs that means that the plugin is not communicating with your PayPal account.
In regards to the following comment.

That is not currently possible with the plugin unless you buy the Form Builder addon.

InactiveI’m confused. In the documentation it says:
7. The member will receive an email that contains a “special” link to complete the registration.
8. When the member clicks on that special link in the email it will bring them to the registration page and let them choose a “username” and “password” for their account.July 18, 2016 at 12:38 am #7490mbrsolution
ModeratorHi Mary, step 7 and 8 only apply if they choose step 5.
July 18, 2016 at 12:44 am #7491Anonymous
InactiveI see. So this only applies to the paid memberships.
Well in that case I am still back to square root because my paid members are not getting the email with link either, and they are only getting an error page when they click to register.
I think perhaps it’s time I tried another membership plugin.
Thanks for all your help but I just don’t seem to be able to get this working and I just don’t know what else to try. ;-(

ModeratorIn regards to the e-mail issue you might like to try the following troubleshooting instructions before you decide to change plugin.
Also make sure that your PayPal IPN is set up correctly

InactiveYou have no idea how much I do NOT want to change plugins. It’s just that I’ve tried everything with this one and still can’t make it work.
I just followed the instructions in the latest troubleshooting link you gave me and the results are exactly the same as I have been getting all along, and for which I cannot find an answer.
When I subscribe to free membership log shows
[07/18/2016 1:03 AM] – SUCCESS :Member notification email sent to: test@christiangays.com
[07/18/2016 1:03 AM] – SUCCESS :Admin notification email sent to: mary@christiangays.comWhen I subscribe for paid membership the log shows nothing, but PayPal notifies me that I have a new subscriber and first payment has been made. However the new member is not recorded in Users or Members.
This is on my localhost site mind you, and my IPN settings are for the working website.
If I subscribe on the working website for free membership, as soon as I enter the info on the form and click to subscribe I get a blank white page that says Error:
and nothing at all is recorded in the logs BUT I DO get registered as a member.
If I subscribe as a paid member then all goes well initially. I get notified by PayPal that I have a new subscription payment. The new subscriber is taken to the Thank You page which says he will get an email with link. Email is received. Link is clicked, taking new member to registration page where his PayPal info is already filled in. He enters username and password, BUT again he is taken to a blank white page that just says Error: and the log records NOTHING of the transaction at all.

ModeratorIn regards to your comment.
This is on my localhost site mind you, and my IPN settings are for the working website. This would cause a problem because PayPal would communicate only with the site in the URL set up in your PayPal IPN settings and not with the current site you are testing.

InactiveYes, I understand. That’s why I mentioned it, but I can’t change the IPN settings because the other site is working and needs them, even if it isn’t working properly

InactiveI guess my point is that I have tried it on localhost as you suggested, and I can’t get it to work.
I have read the documentation a zillion times. I have three monitors, and I keep the documentation on the left screen while I follow the instructions word for word on the middle screen.
I just don’t know what else to do. Nobody seems to know why I am getting this Error page. I need a working site and I don’t know who else to ask. I see no other alternative than to try another plugin.
It is my last resort.

ModeratorHave you tried to create a testing platform in your server instead of locally in your laptop or desktop?
July 18, 2016 at 3:24 pm #7504Anonymous
InactiveI don’t know what this means. If you mean on another domain name, then yes. I have tried it on a couple of domain names without any success. I thought perhaps the problem was with the server since I had tried Membership2 Pro as well and also had problems, which is why my son-in-law set me up to test on desktop.
I am just starting to develop ChristianGaysDating.com and my plan is to try it on that site.

ModeratorThat sounds like a plan.
