ParticipantHi
I have been trying to work out how a member can cancel their subscription. At present, it seems, they have to contact me to ask me to cancel it for them.I see that you have a shortcode for both PayPal and Stripe but I cannot place them. When I go to the profile page I try to place the code there but it just puts another ‘you are not logged in as a member’ message on that page. It does not place a button. I can not see how to get to the actual profile page in order to edit it with the code/button.
I turned off the ‘delete account’ button because that’s not helpful. It deletes the account without cancelling the subscription. Also it removes all the data so that if a member wants to join again next month they have to start from scratch again.
Can you help with this please?
Many thanks,
Jerry.

ModeratorIs the member logged in? This is a requirement. The cancel link is specific to a member so it can be shown to a logged-in member only.
Are the shortcodes being used [swpm_paypal_subscription_cancel_link] and [swpm_stripe_subscription_cancel_link] ?
If you place these on a test page, do they work?
When doing any testing, please ensure the debug logs are turned on.

ParticipantHow can I test this?
I created a test page and added the shortcodes and the preview screen returns an error message saying I have to specify my merchant ID in the shortcode, and the message ‘you are not logged in as a member’.
The codes don’t work when I just insert them on the profile page. Nothing appears on the member’s prifile page

ModeratorQuestion: When you try to cancel, are YOU logged into SWPM as the member who wants to cancel?

ParticipantHi
Yes, I have test accounts that I log into to see what works etc.

ModeratorAre you using the shortcode format described here?

ParticipantHi
Hi – I added these codes, as per the instructions:
[swpm_paypal_subscription_cancel_link]
[swpm_stripe_subscription_cancel_link]

ModeratorPlease read the link I provided. You are not using the correct format for the PayPal shortcode.

ParticipantI have now entered the code from the link above on a test page, and included my Paypal merchant id but it is now just displaying the code.
https://writewithjerry.com/test/
It displays the code whether logged in or not.
Would it not make sense for these buttons to be included in the plugin? A member should be able to easily cancel their subscription as standard.

ParticipantHi again – apologies – iwas putting the code in “code” rather than “shortcode”.
So I now have a simple link “cancel subscription from PayPal”, and that seems to b working. But there is now nothing else on that page. All the other options for the member to edit their profile have gone.
Is there some way I can edit the member profile page?
This is counter-intuitive. I think there should be a ‘my account’ section where the member can change their details and the buttons for stripe and paypal subscription cancelations. Would this be hard to aachieve?
I also need a button for Stripe subscritpion cancelation.
Many thanks for your helpd. I’m sure I’ll get there.
Best wishes,
Jerry.

Moderator@YaYa — Canceling the payment SUBSCRIPTION is not the same thing as canceling a membership ACCOUNT.
@Jerry — You’d have to use the Form Builder Addon, to create customized member profiles.
