Free Membership with Donation (Stripe)

I would like to create a membership level that does not require paying a fixed rate, but instead allows the subscriber to choose a donation amount (so long as the amount is greater than $5).

It would appear as though this can be achieved via the WP Express Checkout Plugin.

However this plugin is only compatible with Paypal. Is there a way to do what I’m proposing with Stripe?

I also need “the amount” to be reoccurring (collected monthly).

Or perhaps offer two payment buttons.
One button for a 1-time payment (similar to the what WP Express Checkout currently offers), and a different payment button for a reoccurring payment (which is something I don’t think WP Express is capable of for donations).

Unless you are an organization that is recognized by your country’s taxing authority as a charitable organization; Stripe does not support donations.

In our case, the payment button would be published on the website of a 501(c)(e) organization. This type of organization is tax exempt and 100% of the donation (minus the Stripe fees) will be used for the charitable purpose described to the donor.

Since you used the term 501(c) I’m assuming you are based in the US. Please contact Stripe directly to determine if there is a “magic switch” they have to turn on, or if there is other account related things that we have no control over.

I believe you can use WooCommerce (via the WooCommerce Integration Addon, a premium extension). You can set up a membership product with variable pricing (a donation-like option) in WooCommerce. That could mimic a donation flow. But these features—variable pricing and subscriptions—require paid WooCommerce extensions. However, you would still be subject to regular Stripe fees.

Currently, I don’t see a way to create a “ product”, which would be used to create priceID’s, which is what the Simple Membership plugin uses when creating payment buttons.

At this time, our standard subscription integration does not support a donation-based model, and this feature is not currently advertised or included. However, I’ve noted your request and added it to our internal feature wishlist for future consideration.
