THIS IS A GOOD NEWS POST
I asked about indexing custom fields before, but there was no solution.

I needed just one extra field: Name of Choir. So I added it by choosing Custom in the Form Items panel, and adding a text field. I didn’t realise that it wouldn’t be indexed on the Members pages.

But by sheer chance, I decided to choose Standard in the Form Items panel, and then choose Company. Then over on the right-hand panel I changed the wording from Company to Name of Choir.

Lo and behold, I can now have my members enter the choir name into the Name of Choir box (previously Company) and putting their choir into the search box on the Members page finds them.

So, I’m guessing that all the options in the Standard Form Items get indexed, but not those in Custom.

If it’s already in the documentation, then I’ve missed it.

An excellent result, which I thought others might not know about.

    Cheers,
    JohnF

Hi JohnF did you know about the following documentation? Someone had asked a similar question to your solution above. You can read more about it from the following thread.

    Hi mbrsolution,

Yes, I read all the posts and took note of that documentation and the thread you pointed to. Unfortunately I’m not that computer-literate enough to know what hooks and such like are.

I just needed to be able to search the Members on one extra field which I had created in Form Builder using the Custom Form Items set, not realising it wouldn’t be available as a search term. Discovering that all the Standard Form Items are available meant I was able to achieve what I wanted. I used the Company field, changing its name to Name of Choir so that it makes sense to my members on their registration and profile forms.

The only thing that is not happening is that the change of the field name is not reflected on the Edit members page: Down the left-hand side the Field name still shows Company rather than Name of Choir. But this is internal to me, so I can live with that.

This is such a great plug-in. It is keeping track of my 14,250 members with ease.

    Cheers,
    JohnF

I am happy to hear that you found a solution to your problem. The plugin will get better as the developers add more functionality, so stay tuned.

    Enjoy the plugin 🙂
