ParticipantI have over 2000 posts that have a category “Members” applied to them. Category protection is enabled, General Protection is on for the category and so is the access for specific Membership Levels for that category.
I am now struggling to remove that protection. If I untick general protection for that category, and also tried to remove access for those individual levels (since no longer needed as the category is no longer protected), the posts still remain protected (even after cache wipe).
The only way I am able to remove the protection for these posts is by going through one by one and in the sidebar under “Simple WP Membership Protection” to click “No, Do not protect this content”.
It appears that whatever I do in Category Protection only impacts new posts, ie automaticly applies these protection settings. However now that I want to batch disable them on thousands of posts, I am unable to do so unless I do it manually.
Please help!

And you have “undone/reversed” the steps in this document?

KeymasterIf you apply category protection to certain content, the category protection will take priority over individual content protection. To apply individual protection to content within protected categories, you need to either fully remove the category protection or move the content to an unprotected category.
Fully remove category protection means that you undo everything you did previously (not just half).

ParticipantIt appears that a large number of articles are now fine once I removed this category protection however still a large bunch (unknown number) still retain protection rights (individual protection). There is not aparent way of me knowing which ones are/are not protected without going through one by one. Is there any way to reset these rights to all unprotected?

ModeratorHave you tried the suggestion by @admin of creating a new unprotected category like “Free4All” and then moving the “Members” content to the new category?
P.S. It doesn’t help that you have a “Member” membership level and a “Members” category.

ParticipantSadly ‘moving’ it to another category doesn’t make any difference. I created a new category Archive and applied this to the post and removed it from ‘Members” category. The post is still protected. It seems like the post-specific (individual protection) is baked in :/
This would be so much a problem if I knew which posts are protected. I am worried there may be hundreds…

ParticipantHa, I’ve just found Post and Page protection setting, 38 pages of posts with a few ticked on each page. I think I can go through them like this. I’ll let you know how I get on. Thanks!

KeymasterThe bulk post/page protection option should be useful for unprotecting previously protected posts.
https://simple-membership-plugin.com/apply-protection-posts-pages-bulk/If the individual post protection option doesn’t work, then you can try the following reset option. It’s not an ideal solution but worth checking it out:
https://simple-membership-plugin.com/simple-membership-reset-settings-and-data-addon/If you reset the ‘Membership Level Data,’ it will remove all protection settings. You will need to recreate your membership levels and reassign them to member profiles, which could be a challenging task.
I’ll add a wish-list item to include a reset option specifically for protection settings.
