Recently, we have thoroughly investigated our analytics for the site and noticed we have a 75-85% bounce rate, which is unsatisfying to say the least. We think this may be caused by when new users go to first access the site, they are prompted to register for access hence they go off the site straight away. Could this be the reason our bounce rate is so high and if so, is there anything we can do to combat this?
No, that’s not the real cause of the overall high bounce rate. The registration page is just one page out of many pages on your site. The registration page doesn’t get that much traffic so it won’t contribute to your overall bounce rate. You can go through the bounce rate of each of your other posts and pages of the site and you will most likely notice that they all have a high bounce rate (for the site overall to have a high bounce rate).
You can deactivate the plugin or temporarily delete the registration page then observe your bounce rate to verify what I am saying.
