ParticipantHi team!
Thank you for keeping up the great work on this plugin.
I have a question on editing an existing payment button: Will the changes affect the current subscribers?
Let’s say I raise the fee. The current subscribers keep the old fee or the new one?
And will I need to refresh the code of the button in the page I placed it or will it remain the same?
Thanks in advance for your answers!

ModeratorHi, if you want to increase the fees for a membership level, then I recommend the following step.

Let me know if the above helps you.
Thank you

ParticipantThe thing is, I work with paypal subscriptions, so my customers only buy once. That’s why I asked what happen with current subscribers.
From your answer, I can deduce that any change to existing subscription payment buttons will indeed affect the current subscribers, am I right?
Thanks for your answer!

(Quoted from the documentation I shared above)
If you are using subscription/recurring type payments for memberships then the existing subscription payment contract will need to be cancelled. The member can cancel a subscription by contacting you or by logging into their PayPal account and cancelling the subscription from there. It doesn’t matter when the existing subscription contract is cancelled (it can be cancelled before or after the upgrade to the new level). The answer to your question is yes.
Let me know if the above helps you.
Kind regards

ParticipantSorry if I’m not explaining myself right, english is not my main language.
What I want to do is:
1. Change the currency of payments from mexican pesos to US dollars; and
2. Raise the fee from $27 USD to $30What I want to know is if this changes will affect my current subscribers for me to notify them about this changes.
If they won’t be affected, I’m ok with that, I don’t need them to cancel their current subscription to pay the new fee, I only want new customers to pay for the new fee, but if my current clients will be affected for this change, I would like to let them know.
I hope I was able to explain myself better this time and sorry for the troubles.
Thanks a lot for keep responding 😀

If you only want your new members to pay the extra fee, why don’t you create a new payment button with the extra fee added and the US currency. That would not affect in anyway your current subscribed members.
Does the above makes sense to you?
Thank you

ParticipantYeah but I thought just making the changes to the existing button would be a lot easier, if not, what’s the point on having the editing option?
I just wanted to know what were the implications of making changes on an existing payment button when working with recurring payments.

KeymasterYou can’t change any existing subscription agreement (for someone who has already agreed to it and it is ongoing). PayPal doesn’t let you make changes to prevent fraudulent activities. I will give you a simple: someone can make a user signup for a subscription showing a low amount, then change it secretly to charge a higher amount later. That will not be fair since the user didn’t agree to that subscription details at the time of the checkout.
If you make changes to a subscription button, it ONLY affects the future sign ups. The existing recurring payments will continue at whatever was agreed already (when they signed up).
A good practice is to make a NEW subscription payment button and then the new users can start to use that. The older users are grandfathered in (so they continue to pay the amount that they agreed at the time of checkout). If you want to force existing users to change the payment, then you have to cancel the subscription. They can signup using the NEW button and they will agree to the NEW subscription details in the process (in a transparent manner).

That’s what I was asking. I don’t want my current subscribers to be affected by the changes on a button and, as you say, they won’t, so I will do edit the button without concerns.
One last thing, when I edit the button, will the code for it change and will I need to replace it on the Join us page or will it remain the same?
Thanks a lot for your help!
