    If I have say gold silver bronze with 12 month memberships, and I want to deuce bronze for new, but not existing members to 3 months.
    Can I just change the term and it only affects new purchasers, or do i need to setup a new bronze level?

    You need to create a new level. Expiry dates are calculated using the term information stored in the level entries.
