ParticipantWhen I close the browser and re-open it, I’m still logged on. How do I get it to log off when the browser is closed?

Moderator- Which browser and platform are you using?
- When you close the browser, are you closing the browser window, or just the browser tab?
Are you able to create a test account for us, so we can try and replicate this behavior? In addition to the test account credentials, please provide the URL of the site.

ModeratorOn the login page:
- If the “Remember Me” box is checked, the login cookie used by the plugin is given an expiration date of 14 days and 12 hours.
- If the “Remember Me” box is not checked, the login cookie used by the plugin is given an expiration date of 3 days.
- If the member’s browser is configured to clear all cookies, when the browser is closed; the effect is as if the member is logged out, every time they close their browser; irregardless of whether or not the “Remember Me” box is checked.
- Otherwise, the 14.5 or 3 day cookie expirations will be in force.
If you’d like to shorten or eliminate the 3 day minimum expiry, please see:

ParticipantBut would it be better if the 14 day expiry time extended each time the user visited the site?

ModeratorEverybody has different security needs. SWPM is open source. You are welcome to adjust the cookie expiration times as you see fit.

Keymaster@bobgarrett, The 14-day “remember me” period is fixed from the time of the initial login and does not automatically extend based on ongoing usage of the website. This means that even if the user accesses the site daily, they will need to log in again once the original 14-day period expires.
There is no auto-refresh/extension of the login cookie just for logging in daily. This is a standard behavior of login cookies across all websites.
You can customize the duration and make your “remember me” login cookie stay valid much longer than 14 days (for example, you can use a value of 30 days or even longer).
