ParticipantMy membership payment process is being handled outside of Simple Membership.
My question is about renewals.
I have a membership level which expires on 12/31/2017
First question – do I need to update that level when 2018 rolls around? If so, I assume this would only affect members created after 12/31/2017?
Secondly, when a members pays us for a renewal (outside Simple Membership), how can I manually mark him renewed?
Thanks,

ModeratorHi, in regards to your first question is this membership level expiring on the 31 of December 2017? If it is are you allowing the member to renew the account via the expired account access option in the plugin?
In regards to your second question. You can update the members detail stating that they have renewed the membership for x amount of time.
Let me know if the above helps you and if you need more help.
Thank you

ParticipantHi,
Membership Level IS expiring on 12/31/17 (Fixed Date Expiry).
Would I be better off using a yearly expiry – setting start date of new members to 12/31 of previous year?
I do have the Enable Expired Account Login option enabled (advanced settings). However, the renewal page does not use the payment functionality in Simple Membership. So, I need some manual way to tell Simple Membership that the user has renewed.
How and where do I “update the members detail stating that they have renewed the membership for x amount of time?”
Sorry if I’m not being clear – I’m going to learn a lot more about how expiration works when 12/31 rolls around in a few days.

ModeratorHi, you can edit the members profile page by changing the membership date. Then enable the following option Notify User, this will notify the user of the changes made to their account.
Does the above help you in any way? Let me know if you still need more help.
Thank you

ParticipantI’m sorry – I have to be missing something – getting frustrating!
“you can edit the members profile page by changing the membership date.”
I’d really be happy too but there is not a membership date in the member’s profile – where should I be changing it?
I understand the Notify User if I could figure out how to update the membership expiry date.
Only dates I see in the profile are “Access Starts” and “Member Since”?

ModeratorHi, my apologies you are correct. What I meant to say is change the profile “Access Starts” or “Member Since”. Let me know if this helps you.
Remember that currently the plugin does not handle payments outside Simple Membership. What I am trying to do is help you achieve your goal by making some changes in the members profile page via the admin user. If the settings that I mentioned does not help you, try and change anything else in the member’s profile to trigger the Notify User option in the settings.
Let me know if you need more help.
Thank you

ParticipantHi, Mbrsolution,
I decided I needed to change my level from fixed date expiry to yearly renewal.
After that, by using your suggestion, I am now able to “manually renew” a membership by simply changing the “Access Starts” date.
If the account has already expired, I also have to change the member back to “active” status in addition to updating the date.
So, I am able to handle yearly renewals without using the payment functionality in Simple Membership.
Ya Hoo!
Thanks for not giving up on trying to find a solution for me!
Happy New Year!
