Start with 6 months free membership to then be paid membership

I am planning to keep this simple and simply use a Free member level and a Paid member level. The difference will be that some sections are only accessible to paid members, including adding entries to a directory I am using.

For the paid member level I’d like to be able to give the first 6 months free (of the paid member level with all access as if a fully paid member) and when that 6 months has expired a request for payment to remain a paid member level is requested, if not paid they revert back to the Free Member level.

Is this possible automatically or is it a manual process I will need to use, i.e. have a the Free Level, Free Full Member Level and then Paid Member level?
